What a fabulous private zoo. Altina Wildlife Park is a Hidden Gem. The animals all look extremely well cared for and relaxed. Immaculate well thought out habitats. Our guide Alyssa was wonderful, very informative and enthusiastic about her work. A must visit for all. The...More
I recently visited Altina with my family (7 people) for the second time, and I highly recommend a visit. There have been a number of changes to the park since my first visit, including a whole new area with smaller animals, my personal favourites being...More
Very impressive private zoo. The staff are knowledgeable and it is so good to have commentary as you are taken in the wagons around the zoo. We visited about six years ago and even though our children are now teenagers, we enjoyed it just as...More
This visit came highly recommended but we were a little apprehensive given the price. How wrong we were. Everything about the visit was excellent; great guide and wonderful up close wildlife experiences. Much better than Dobbo Zoo. Real commitment to endangered species breeding. Worth every...More
My expectations were low after being told the price was increased on the day of our visit due to Queens B-Day. Then the crappy toilets (!) and intro talk laying out all the rules were not the best welcome.
BUT then we saw the animals...More

The youngest staff members are 17yrs and 19yrs old. Both of these staff members are trainees. Animal training is very intense and can take different amounts of time for each specific staff member both young and old depending on the individuals prior experience, personality, commitment and of course common sense. General animal work is learnt within about 3 months (feeding animals at troughs and cleaning enclosures to high standards) but majority of high risk tasks and carnivore work can take up to 2yrs to learn. Tour training is also dependant on the individual with motorised and mini zoo talks being learnt within a year but horse driving can be any number of years depending on prior experience and the ability to read the horse they are driving. All training is supervised carefully by fully qualified keepers in each field. Age is just a number really with dedication and love for animals a must!
