We loved the walk along the quayside & sitting with a drink watching all the yahts coming & going. A little further in & there are some nice shops, supermarkets, bank with ATM, postoffice etc. Everything you would expect from a small town really. Best place to stay on Kefalonia in my opinion

Amazing yachts! We rented 4 bicycles from a scooter store one block south of Kokoras Gyros Souvlaki restaurant. We took the off road trail by the port towards Karavomilos Taverna which is 15-30 minutes west of downtown Sami by bicycle and its right on the beach. We passed Karavomilos Beach Camping Resort. KefaloniaByAnna.com told us that we could rent bikes from Bikexpert and stop for a swim in the pool at the Karavomylos Camping site and they have changing rooms. We asked around but could not find the Bikexpert but we found the scooter store renting bikes. Sorry I do not remember the name of it but its one block (about 50-100 meters) south of Kokoras Gyros Souvlaki and they charged us 8 Euros for each bike including bike chains. We rode on the east side of town but they do not have an off road trail here and we came back to town when the road started up hill. I am glad we did not try to go up hill because later we drove our rental car (Auto Union allowed us to use ferries and ACR does too but you have to reserve far in advance with ACR) to Antisamos Beach on this road and it would have been a very strenuous bike ride. The bike rental company required that we return the bikes by 9:00 pm but we only used them for 2-3 hours.

This was my first time to Greece and i loved it. Sami has everything you need. It has a great atmosphere plenty of options to eat and drink, shops, tour guides and vehicle hire and is just overall pleasant to be in!

Nice quay at Sami, tree lined with lots of restaurants that are reasonably priced. Lots of sailing craft, some of which are very large and expensive docked in the harbour. The town is lovely at night and relatively lively but relaxing.

Sami, sami, sami... beautiful little town, very little to do except for watching life go by and the massive yachts come in and try and park! The little man on his scooter is there to help direct even the most pretentious of yachtsmen into the smallest of spaces (think bus into a scooter space and you wouldn't be too far wrong!) lovely restaurants ready to serve everything from 'traditional' Greek cuisine to hamburgers and chips - don't be expecting McDonald's though, there isn't one on the island! Sami takes about an hour to explore, a bit further down the coastline you will come to Antisami beach which is beautiful and well worth a visit. Higher up the mountain you can find the old town of Sami which was built between 5th and 2nd century BC. Over the years the place has had a bit of a battering and has suffered significant damage through each of the following centuries. The ruins are thought to be one of the most significant finds in Greece.

This was our 4th time staying in Sami and it is such a peaceful location unspoilt by mass tourism. It is great for relaxing and we always have a sense of disappointment when we have to leave. Fabulous places to eat and watch the world go by and the people are fantastic.

We decided as it had been a number of years since either of us had been to Greece to try one of the islands.
As 1 of us lives in Glasgow Jet2 were doing direct flights to Kefalonia (Wednesday to Wednesday) which was great & we had got a fantastic deal for accommodation so Sami it was.
The village is set along the waters edge with it's port too one side. The local shops all sell local produce which is great value for money ( as we were self catering) it allowed us the freedom to try the locally grown fruit & vegetable.
The village is laid back which is exactly what we wanted and is mostly fkat if you are using a wheelchair or have difficulty walking.

The port is the main strip and only strip in Sami. It's great to walk or sit and view the beautiful boats. It is very traditional and chilled, there aren't any clubs or live music themed bars or even a strip of takeaway shops. It's full of nice bars, great restaurants and shops along the front. The taxi rank and bus stops can be found there and they will take you to most of the major places in Kefilonia.
(see my trip for reviews of the best things to do, places to eat and drink and general tips for sami)
