An eclectic collection from militaria to millinery, it is all there. Agricultural machinery, household items, all about the history of the area, a very tranquil atmosphere of gardens, lawns and shady trees ideal for picnics. The Firth Tower was built in 1882 by Josiah Clifton...More

We stayed in the Carpark overnight, for a small fee, and looked around the grounds that evening. Very tidy, lovely roses and garden beds. Next morning, we paid to go thru the Museum. What a credit it is for the town! The displays are very...More

Our hotel recommended a visit to this place and we are so glad we did. We learnt a lot about the history of the area and how people lived in the early days of european settlement.

On the outskirts of Matamata, a lovely collection of old buildings and artefacts. Note, it is closed on Tuesday and Wednesday. Well preserved buildings, excellent displays and easy access. Spent a thoroughly enjoyable two hours there.

This museum surprised us by how much there is in it. It covers the early settlers in the area, farming and also about the Kaimai tunnel. Loved the way the house is set up and gives you a good look at pioneering life.
