At first, the walk up the hill and many steps seem daunting. But it's not as bad as it looks, and once you get to the top, the views are worth it. You are not able to walk inside the abandoned church, but can look...More

There are a couple of ways to get up to the scenic overlook of San Martino (Sunflower hike book has a good suggestion) - for us it was an enjoyable and not too long climb with many wildflowers, up into the quiet above the town....More

This was a little hard to find as the main path was closed but if you look, you'll find other stairs to take. We really enjoyed both the walk and the views.

This church is visible from the downtown plaza, and after a steep climb you have a fabulous view of the town and the surrounding. Why was it abandoned?

Well worth the climb. Although derelict the church is still amazing and the location has great views of Scicli

This abandoned church is set someway above the town and on a hot day can seem a challenge but its worth it. Broken and lonely it broods over the city and we found it so mysterious almost haunting imagining worshippers making the long climb to...More

The path follows the steps up to the church. Most of the way up there is a left fork which, if you're feeling fit you can take to the higher Santa Lucia. Up at San Matteo you get marvellous views over the town & beyond....More
