For me the most beautiful place of the world, but this is not entirely an objective datum because wound in a cover of emotions and memoirs. I have been to Lakka for 2 months near the Family Homes Movement of father Berton, therefore I have not resided in none of its hotels or guest house (as it would be more appropriated to call), however I have found a lot of friends and delicious people. My memoirs go particularly to Cosmos that a guest has house at the end of the beach (before reaching the Hard Rock to intend us). His guest house is very pleasant and I believes that today he has finished the second room but that of which he can be boasted it is surely the kitchen: lobsters, crabs, barracuda and so much other cooked very well. I have very often eaten in his retaurant and everithing has always been perfect. Lakka in general beach is a heaven: the ocean is calm and warm, the places seem to be firm many years ago to and people are really exceptional; Freetown is nearby. As to forget then the general servant of the beach Billy (I believe that he has also opened a guest house next to that of Cosmos that is his cousin, or at least it was his intention to do it): if you look for something, anything all you take your asking to Billy and he will find it. Attention to the prices: it is correct that there are different prices for the places and for the foreigners because surely the foreigners will have many more money to spend, but it is correct to bargain over...rather you don't come well into contact with the local people if you don't bargain over:)). It is not a place for people gotten used to the great hotels to the luxury and the conveniences, but for people that want to enjoy the heaven for a few days.

Lakka beach is close to town but much less crowded than Aberdeen or Lumley. There is a rip tide, but the swimming is still good is swimmers are aware. There are several places that do great grilled lobster at Lakka, and you can pick your lobsters right out of the traps. Grilled fish and prawns also great. It does tend to be a hang out for NGOs.

it is close to town so it is a quick get away. the beacj is not to bad. but it can get a bit crowded. the beach is not that safe for swimming with young children as the current can get strong. some nice resturants so you can have a bit of choice. not a bad place to get away for the weekend.

Lakka beach is not as astoundingly beautiful as other beaches of Sierra Leone but it is very close to Freetown (about 30 minutes to 1 hour, depending on the crazy traffic). The water is very warm and there are some resto-bars along the beach that sells beer, soda, mineral water and seafood. It is all fished by the fishermen who lives in the near community, so it is all very fresh. At the end of the day you can see the arrival of the boats bringing all the fish, crabs, etc.
The food there is delicious.
This beach is not deserted, there are more tourists, international workers and sierra leoneans who visit Lakka Beach than other beach for its proximity to Freetown. But it's still not crowded.
Near the beach there is the headquarter of the Environmental Foundation for Africa (EFA), a local NGO that do an AMAZING job in their country. You can visit there and gather some information for eco-tourism. The staff is amazing and the director, Tommy Garnett, is a great man. I think that at the end of this year their Biodiversity Learning Centre will be completed and they will have lots of material for tourism and the environment of Sierra Leone. So, if you are at the Lakka Beach, visit the EFA and their Learning Centre. Their website: http://efasl.org.uk/
