On our Gate 1 South African tour we stopped here. It was an light rainy day, but the falls are so impressive you really want to see them. There is a large fence there for safety, which I appreciated it. With some finagling you can get a great shot of the falls as many in our group were able to do. There is a market at the entrance walk to the falls. We arrive very early and with the rain the crafters had their wares covered. There is a short walk along a very rocky, dirt packed path.

We were fortunate to see the falls after a long rainy season, and so the waterfall itself was beautiful.
However, the palisade fence on the viewing platform ruins the view completely and makes it a little difficult to justify paying an entrance fee.
I have attached two photos: one taken through the fence and then the reality of the platform.
If you drive a little further along you reach Mac Mac Pools. While obviously not as spectacular as the main waterfall, one can swim by the smaller waterfalls which makes for a lovely outing. The water was crystal clear as well!

Big disappointment due to the fact that in the dry season (August-September ) it was practically dry and so we stopped to look only from the street without entering the dedicated parking lot. For those who will go there, however to know that a short fenced path that starts at the end of the stalls, leads to the pitch with the safety net from which to look down on the 70-meter high waterfall.
The name Macmac was given to Scottish gold miners who searched this area of South Africa for the precious metal.

Lovely walk and viewing.
I found the viewing platform above average, and far more than adequate. Anyone complaining about the facilities are probably those who like to "pave paradise & put up a parking lot"
It is R15 per person to enter a safe parking environment.
There are toilet facilities. The hawkers were present, but not intrusive.
The falls themselves are magnificent to view.

The Mac Mac falls are breathtaking but everything else a total waste of money! No toiletpaper or even paper towels to dry your hands. All the safety railings are in a terrible state of neglect? I have no idea what the funds (entry fees) are used for. Certainly NOT maintenance! Will not pay 1c to visit any heritage sites in SA not worth it!

Another inexpensive treat and hopefully you love waterfalls. It is about a 500 metre walk from the parking space, and it is not a great walk. Would not recommend it to elderly visitors unless they are still agile on their feet. Lots of stalls around here too.

The name Mac-Mac Falls comes from the 1870s. The Scottish immigrants who came to Mpumalanga during the gold rush had surnames starting with Mac, when President Thomas Burger visited the region he found it very funny so he called this Mac-Mac area. These magnificent 65-meter waterfalls were declared a National Monument on February 18, 1993. The gorge, in addition to being a beautiful place, is home to a series of pools where the landscape changes rapidly, going from a wide meadow to thick jungle vegetation with deep and wonderful hidden gorges, ready to be explored.
Originally "Mac Mac Falls" was a single stream, but miners blew it up with dynamite to divert the river in an attempt to work the gold-rich reef over which it plunges, below the gorge, for some 70m.
We saw Vervet Cercopithecos (Chlorocebus pygerythrus) also called "Tumbili". around the area.
The entrance price is 16 South African rand (€0.80).. It is worth visiting, I liked them a lot.
100% recommendable..

This is just a beautiful, peaceful place to visit. A gem in Sabie! I enjoy walking down the hill and steps. Lots to see on the adventure. I will definitely go back again and revisit. It was a pleasant surprise for both me and my family. Thank you. Just remember sunblock and a hat!

This waterfall was originally a single stream, but gold miners blasted it with dynamite to divert the river in an attempt to work the rich gold-bearing reef over which it plunges. Toilet facilities are available at the curio stalls

The Mac Mac Falls are found along R532 just north of Sabie. This is one of the impressive waterfalls you will find along the Panorama Route drive in the Mpumalanga Highlands of South Africa. It is named after Scottish miners who panned for gold in the area in the late 1800s.
The falls is located directly on R532. Pay at the entrance (R15 per adult as of Oct 2019), plenty of parking near curio stalls. There are public toilet facilities as well.
Visitors walk through and behind the curio stalls 4-5 minutes to a single viewpoint where you will see a small river dropping water around 70 metres down into a natural pool sandwiched into a narrow and very green gorge. It is nice scene, even during the dry season when only a moderate volume of water is falling from the river above.
Overall, the views of Mac Mac Falls are nice to see, worth making the 10-15 minute stop when driving the Panorama Route between Sabie and Graskop.
