I traveled to Mardin with my sister in 2009. What a truly wonderful place it was. I only hope that it will survive the unrest in the region. Such a fabulous place. Steeped in history and definitely somewhere I would love to return to.

Although this place is one of the best spots for a vista of Syrian valley, it is a military base for decades and you cannot visit the castle itself. Depending on the security situation in the region you can climb up close to the doors....More

Amazing castle of the ancient world!!!! A real must see if you are in the area. We walked all around Marin Castle and learned a lot about the ancient histoty

Closed due to being used by military. Seems to have been closed for renovations and then due to problems in Syria taken over by Turkish army.
