- Regina PHannover, Germany3,569 contributionsformer gloryThe highlight of the beach is the pier with its Ferris wheel and many other activities. Unfortunately, the stalls and stands are pretty run down and it will take a lot of time, love and money to restore them to their former glory. Many shops have also already closed.Visited October 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 2 April 2024
- Klaus BRiedstadt, Germany735 contributionsThe glory of times past is unfortunately goneThe Ferris wheel and other activities have lost a lot of their shine, which is a shame because the potential is there. It is certainly still an experience to ride the Ferris wheel and look out over the wide sea, but this is no longer enough. The public is now moving around in an environment that is no longer particularly pleasant.Visited April 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 5 May 2024
- Betty DRotterdam, The Netherlands104 contributionsFaded glory, but with a nice view.Poorly maintained. Poorly accessible for persons with strollers, wheelchairs and walkers. Toilets very expensive, and also not accessible for disabled people. Only at the restaurant under the bungy / zip line tower can you, as a disabled person, reasonably go to the toilet. It was very windy at the time I was here, but still sitting outside and watching (and listening) to the jumpers and liners, was funny. The part where the suites are looks like it could collapse at any moment, so I'm actually glad this part wasn't accessible to me either.Visited July 2024Travelled soloWritten 26 July 2024
- Herbert C1,867 contributionsNetherland’s iconic pier with loads of fun offeringsThis iconic pier jutting 382 metres out towards the North Sea has been the centre of attraction in Scheveningen Beach since its opening in 1961. The 2 levels pier, comprising an enclosed lower deck and open-air upper deck, offer a variety of shops, restaurants and bars. The 'extension' at the end of the pier boasts a hotel on stilts (De Pier Suites) with the sea literally swishing beneath the rooms, a ferris wheel above the sea that takes about 20 minutes to complete a loop, and a bungy jumping tower from 60 metres above the sea - all with spectacular views of the North Sea, Scheveningen Beach and The Hague skyline. Expecting a lovely weather during the summer season? Don’t bet on it! It can get extremely chilly when the wind blows, but fortunately, you can easily take shelter in the enclosed lower deck and yet still enjoy the views. Touristy? No doubt! But it's still a vibrant place to cap off your Den Haag adventure.Visited June 2024Travelled soloWritten 12 August 2024
- PojoReuver, The Netherlands14 contributionsfor food and adrenalineI went to Scheveningen a few weeks ago, we went to the pier then, it all looked a bit poorly maintained and there was not really a way for people with wheelchairs to get in. What is nice for the people who are really adrenaline junkies is the bungee jump or the zip-line, at the bungee you fall from 60 meters above the sea. With the zip-line you fly over the pier. To do this you have to pay a lot...but to be honest that's worth it. and on the pier itself enough eateries also highly recommended.Visited July 2024Travelled with familyWritten 29 August 2024
- Harold1971Dubai, United Arab Emirates758 contributionsLovely place with Big eyeIn August 2024 we visited the famous Pier in Scheveningen on a beautiful summer’s day. The beach was absolutely packed with people. It is a very famous place in the Netherlands, so we felt we had to see it with our own eyes. The Big Eye or Reuzenrad gave an amazing view from above.Visited August 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 2 October 2024
- Wesley58 contributionsLots to do, but a bit outdatedWhen you are in Scheveningen you always walk along the Pier. There are some shops and bars here. It looks very cozy, but is a bit outdated. The big island is not accessible. This is what they're doing right now. The bungee island and Ferris wheel island are accessible. All in all, we would have seen it quickly.Visited October 2024Travelled with familyWritten 8 October 2024

There is always something going on on the pier; accordingly, there are a lot of people.
Unfortunately, the facility looks a bit run down. Boxes are stacked in the outside windows, compartments on the upper deck are covered with corrugated iron, and the wooden floorboards are wobbly.

A little ram shackle but good fun, food and drink more reasonable and generous than the beech side. The big wheel is good with long views and sensibly priced. Ice creams on the top deck were tasty and correctly priced, also very welcome considering the high temperatures (32C). There was bungy jumping and a zip line for two people from a tower that did the length of the pier (the zip line), that seemed popular but not overcrowded

We have to say as UK tourists we were a little bit underwhelmed with Scheveningen seafront / pier. We had seen photos on google and trip advisor and it looked a nice place, but when we got there we were a little disappointed.
The buildings are a mish mash of concrete amongst a few nice buildings. The seafront had a decent number of bars along it and they seemed like a fairly nice place to sit with a drink but we didnt bother so cannot comment on the prices.
We walked along the pier which was a little bit tired looking. There is a bungy jump and zip wire but we thought the prices were a little steep for a few minutes of excitement - even my teenage daughters thought that.
The whole place though just seemed a little bit grotty, tired and and run down, like it had seen better days. It actually reminded us of a British seaside resort, but I think the UK has nicer places than this.
If you are visiting the Hague for a few days then I suppose its ok for an afternoon or some time at the seaside, but don't think its anything particularly special either.

These attractions are highly praised on the internet. We were there today and left very disappointed. I can't say anything about the attractions, but I can say something about the shopping mall. Some of the furniture is so dilapidated that I can't recommend anyone sit down. There is a risk of injury. I also have a problem with the cleanliness. I think that with so many young employees, they simply don't want to keep their workplace (and that includes tables and chairs and everything that goes with them) clean. That's missing there. What will they do when the high season starts? I don't necessarily recommend anyone eating there. The high parking fees seem to be common in the Netherlands. So save your money and have a nice day somewhere else.

A disappointment: both floors are unkempt and dirty, no seating (a few wooden pallets) and just one uninviting kiosk for drinks and ice cream (expensive). No comparison with other piers, for example in England, where there are even deckchairs, benches and chairs and you can get small things like fresh mussels or fish and chips to go. If the prices - €100 for the Ferris wheel and €40 for the cable car ride that lasts less than 2 minutes - are correct, then they are absolutely overpriced.
We didn't like it at all.

My wife and I together with several nephews visited this facility on a very cold and windy day. Able to negotiate the complex internally, there were numerous shops and cafe stops and some incredible views as well. All the store holders were very friendly and clearly service oriented. Was also not expensive.

I spent a few days in Scheiveningen in mid October, I fell in love with that beautiful hotel The Kurhaus, I took daily walks on the beach from the pier to the lighthouse. The town has a small lovely museum, it won’t take you more than an hour to see it but is more about the culture and the way of living rather than art. Since it was late in the season a lot of the promenade restaurants were not operating already but still easy to get some of that terrible Dutch service! (sorry but customer service is not their highest skill countrywide) A couple of supermarkets close by, a Jumbo and an Albert Hein, tons of little cafes (be careful not to call them coffee shops!!) In The boulevard by that old gorgeous church, Easy and quick ride on the tram to Den Hague to other museums like the Mauritshuis where you can see The Goldfinch and The Girl with The Pearl Earring, to conclude is a beautiful place to visit any time of the year, I can imagine is packed in the summertime, remember it will be a Nordic beach not a tropical one but beautiful none the less

Whatever the weather this Pier has so much to offer. With good weather you can walk the top deck and be outdoors and enjoy the views and breezes. In colder weather, the lower Pier is all enclosed with plenty to do for kids, restaurants and play places for the younger children.
The Ferris wheel is worth the ride. A ticket got us about five major revolutions of the Ferris wheel...but it stops at times to switch out people so it is not five quick loops of the wheel. It took time and was a wonderful way to see the beach, watch teh people on the zip lines and the Bungy jumpers nearby.

De Pier in Scheveningen has a long history, which could be summed up as glorious and decayed. People from The Hague can probably remember how de pier declined slowly, even being closed due to various hazards (i.e. wood rotting away, exposing the sea under the stairs to the former lookout tower). But wait, de pier is back!
I must say I was quite surprised when I visited in a windy weekend in October. The place was buzzing with a lot of eateries, forming (I guess) some sort of food court (but not officially so). Anyway, I liked it a lot. Being off season, it was not busy. But I can imagine it being busy on a good day with weather not being too hot otherwise people would be sitting on the beach).

Superb pier, two decks - upper deck open to the weather while the entire lower deck is fully enclosed with glass windows, and is packed full of shops, bars, small restaurants and Dutch fast food kibberling (fried fish pieces) stalls. Toilets too.
At the end of the pier there are 2 small platforms linked by small walkways - one contains a big wheel, the other a large tower from which a zipline runs back to the upper deck of trhe pier.
The lower deck was very busy at 1700 hours on a Saturday. Lovely place - British piers should take note.

Beste,
We zijn dit weekend (paasweekend) op verrassingsweekend (geschenk voor m'n ouders), met het hele gezin.
Bij ons gezin horen ook 2 kleine honden (poedel en Tibetaanse Terrier).
Zijn honden toegelaten ?
Mvg

Does anyone know if there are shower facilities anywhere on/near the beach?
Written 25 August 2016
Hi folks, we were there and in the shopping mall right by the beach has shower facility (just one cubicle) in each of the toilets on the first level. It costs €7,50 (as of 26 August 2016). 😊
