Beautiful walk from the foot path near the parking area. The walk is approximately 2 hours in total.

We have visited the lake for many years and are always stunned by the natural beauty. We have frequently walked all round the lake but on this visit flooding was likely to have affected the tunnel so we jsut walked one side and returned. This...More

Buttermere is our must do lake walk every visit to The Lake District. Stunning scenery and a perfect walk. The side with the tunnel is challenging in areas but so worth it. If dog walking there are lots of sheep either roaming free or in...More

I really loved walking around Buttermere. The footpaths are well marked and the scenery is just stunning. We saw wild swimmers and some canoes. Lots of places to stop and picnic, or just to sit and take in the beauty of nature. Lots of places...More

Although this lake was a 1,5 hours drive, from where we are staying, we were very glad we did go ahead and do so. Because we loved it! Such a great walk around the lake. With some sun to accompany us, it was just perfect.

There are buses but as we had a car I didn't take much notice of how frequent the buses were. I should thin it is 45 mins to an hour by car
