The first contact with Reus can begin in Plaza Mercadal, in the nerve center of the city, square and with portals on three sides. This square has been present in the city since the 15th century and has always been the main place for social and commercial activities in Reus. Around it is the Town Hall, Casa Navàs – one of the most representative modernist buildings in Reus, by Lluís Domènech i Montaner) – and the recent Gaudí Centre Experience, an experimental space around his work and with replicas of his most important works such as Casa Batlló, La Pedrera, Sagrada Familia or Parc Güell.

Plaza del Mercadal is the Market Square located in the center of the old town of Reus, a city near Tarragona, in the South of Catalonia. It is a very beautiful square, where you can see the most important buildings of the town like Town Hall, Tourism Office or Casa Navàs (a Modernism House). Also, there are a lot of shops, restaurants and bars in the square, so it is a place, you will go, if you walk as a tourist in the old town. It is a very nice place to eat or drink something in any terrace in the square, visit the Tourist Office, which is very interesting, or do a guided visit inside Casa Navàs. Very interesting and historical place.

Placa Mercadal is the main square in the centre of the old part of Reus. Many of the streets leading to it are pedestrianised. It is bordered by restaurants and the town hall, and the streets around are busy with bars and eating places at night .
The square itself has a traditional aspect with well worn stone under foot, seating areas, and the wonderful Casa Navas in one corner. It is the location of the traditional christmas market and other local holidays and festivities. An evening walk down Carrer Monterols past the boutiques and other shops to the square has all the feel of a typical mediterranean perambulation.

What a gem of a place! Gorgeous little streets and squares with cafés, restaurants and bars a plenty. When I was there it was local holiday the next day and there was pre-holiday celebration. It was a bit like mardi-gras with everyone dancing in the streets, but with little or no alcohol involved, so it's extra busy and buzzing. There is a really friendly atmosphere with loads of families about. Definitely worth trying to catch this late September celebration.

A large area in the centr of Reus with some interesting buildings. Not a remarkable space but I did visit on a dull day and it was fairly deserted. Gaudi museum is on one side - but it was shut!!

Plaça del Mercadal is the main square in Reus, a town located in Tarragona Region, in Catalonia. It is a very beautiful square, where there is the town hall, the tourist office, some important buildings like Casa Navàs (a modernism-style building) and some bars and restaurants, where you can eat or drink something and relax. Probably, it is the best square in the town. Also, close here, there is the main church of the town. Very nice.

When you are spending some days in Costa Daurada you are not expecting to face such a beautiful city as Reus. It is the city of the architect Antoni Gaudí, so It is giving some clues about that.
And for sure the main square, which has been changing the name along history, is the jewel of the Crown..
We use to spend two weeks on the beach, in Cambrils, and weekly are visiting Reus for a nice dinner and having some drinks in any of the several bars and restaurants just in front of the square or nearby streets.
It is many times almost overcrowded, but I find it is part of the charm.

Placa Mercadal is, literally, the heart of Reus.
City Hall is located there as are a host of places to enjoy everything from a cup of coffee to a three-course meal. The side streets radiating from the plaza are full of shops with a wide variety of products on offer (and more restaurants) and the Centre de Lectura, the city's oldest cultural center.
Many of the city's most popular events are also held in the plaza. These include human castle building exhibitions, religious festivals, political rallies, and musical performances. For those of us who live here, it is also a great place to do some people watching, read a book, and take photographs. There is, quite literally, always something interesting going on.
