Slightly elevated on a terrace behind the market hall of Eleftherias Square is the mitropolis (cathedral) of Kos town, whose milky blue domes are visible from far. It is a three-nave church, completely covered with frescoes inside. Unfortunately since the earthquake of July 2017 it...More

Shame about the damage caused by the earthquake as there are big cracks all over the outside. It will be lost if not soon repaired which would be a tragedy.

Lovely to walk around but you can’t get in due to the earthquake damage. Nice to see it during the day and then at night. You will walk past it while exploring Kos town.

Without knowing it, we walked past this many times before realising it was the cathedral of Kos Town. I wouldnt say its larger or any more spectacular than the many other churches that are dotted around the island, that have far more character.

Kos Town Cathedral is beautiful from ouside where you can see typical Greek architecture, in front of entrance door is nice mosaic of pigeons. Cathedral is unfortunatelly closed after earthquake in 2017 so it is impossible to see the interior of church.

Kos town Cathedral was located in the old town by Eleftherias square. It was a Greek Orthodox Church built in early 1930’s. The marble floor and beautiful icons were amazing. During last summer’s powerful earthquake, this church is terribly damaged.
