An attractive building which we could only view from the outside as it was closed at the time of our visit.

Due to earthquake damage it's regarded as unsafe to enter. Although you can still walk around it and take snaps. If my memory serves me, I believe there's a tiny chapel adjacent to the church where you may contemplate and light a candle. I adore Orthodox Christian churches, especially inside though.

Sweet small cathedral in the heart of Kos town.Meet it after a pleasant walk in the cute streets of the old town. There is some seats close to it so it's also a nice place for a pit stop.

Monday 28th September and we were sightseeing and exploring in Kos Town and the Old Town, we visited Eleftherias Square where this old cathedral is situated.

It sits in between the impressive Farmers Market and Casa Del Fascio buildings.

Sadly the Cathedral was one of the many buildings affected by the earthquake, which hit the region on the 21st July 2017, with magnitude of 6.7.

Sadly due to the damage the structure is unsound and closed.

Just because it is closed it does not mean it is not worth visiting. Although damaged It still a beautiful building with its beauty still visible through the scaffolding that surrounds it.

It does remain a special feature of Eleftherias Square and still contributes to making the Square a special place to visit

Unfortunately, due to earthquake damage in 2017, the cathedral is closed. However it is situated in a nice square and does have some beautiful paintings on the outside of the building.

This a beautiful cathedral in the centre of Kos Town. It is unfortunately closed due to earthquake damage but is very ornate on the outside so worth a look.

Still closed two years after 2017 earthquake. Probably a fine building inside. One side looks ok then you walk around and see badly cracked/damaged walls.

The cathedral was was closed to the public when I visited because of damage caused by the earthquake a couple of years ago. Damage was evident in the form of quite a few cracks on the exterior of the building. However it is a beautiful building and well woth visiting and photgraphing. Hopefully it will be repaired in the near future. It is located very near the town bus station and there are steps on one side of it which lead down into the quaint tourist shopping area of the town and slightly further to the harbour and sea front. From the other side of the building is access to Eleftharius Square where the indoor market place is located together with a number of restaurants etc, around the square. On one occasion when crossing the square I was lucky enough to see a traditionally dressed group of people together with number of very modern glamourous young Greek ladies performing traditional dancing in the middle of the square to entertain the tourists.

A beautiful building from the 1930's, damaged by the 2017 earthquake. A photographic opportunity to create a memory for years to come and a reminder of the impact of earthquakes on our fragile earth

Again. Like the castle. Over 2 years after an earthquake they have not bothered to sort it out!!! How lazy. Two top attractions closed. So it’s a building. And it’s there to look at. Come on kos town sort it out. Just pure laziness.
