Riding an open air bucket was a really, really fun way to see spectacular views over Lake Maggiore. There is one tiny, split second of scariness on the way down (if you look down) but overall it's not scary at all. You are too busy...More

Great thing to do with amazing views across the lake. 10 euros return. Takes just over 15 minutes to get to the top and definitely not one for the faint hearted. We opted for the open bucket option to get the best views. Had a...More

Very steep ride to top. Open and closed "buckets". Closed ones very hot but open ones not for faint hearted or lemmings! They slow the cable down if you need time to get in, otherwise just grab front rail and they slam the door behind...More

The Laveno funivia (cableway) carries one or two people to the overlook from Sasso del Ferro and it is a thrill from bottom to top to bottom. It starts with a decision to take an open or closed "bucket" that will take you to the...More

Just do it. Open cabin. Walk to the summit at the top. Quick beer. Fabulous views. Back down for lunch at Club Kopi. Excellent.

Visited on Monday morning in Late June. The cable cars run every 20 minutes or so stopping for an hour over lunch. No queues and our car was only half full which meant plenty of space to move around and take in the views and...More

Found this cable car by accident, I was sitting on the balcony of our hotel on the other side of the lake and was using binoculars when I spotted what looked like cables going up the hillside so went onto the internet and found Funivie.On...More

Despite that the carriage is a bit scary, it gives the funivie a rustic feel. The baskets flooring is see through and you ride high above ground looking out over Lago Maggiore. I loved this as a child, and returning to Laveno as an adult...More

We went with 2 little children, aged 8 and 3 and it was a fun experience. Our older daughter and I took an open bucket and my husband and our younger one took a closed one as they are scared of heights. It's a pretty...More

I think your parents will be fine. You need to step into the buckets but they are not too high off the ground, approximately 30cm. When you hop on and off there are operators to open and close the door on the bucket. They... More

No, more like just above the waist. It is a bit scary if you have vertigo. There are enclosed cabins as well, we didn't try but could be claustrophic!
