Good place to break a journey and visit the triple locks with an excellent ice cream cone. Would have liked to have wandered along the tow path and seen a barge traverse the locks but that will have to be for another trip.

We parked in Whitchurch, only 50p for 4 hour long stay and walked along the Shropshire Union Canal. Very pleasant tow path all along and peaceful apart from passing narrow boats. No hills to negotiate and there are benches to stop and have a picnic.
Grindley Brook locks are well maintained, clean environment and interesting to watch boats going through. There is a lovely Cafe right on the locks, that will even serve you with cold beer as well as not drinks and cooked food. There is also a shop...More
My husband and I often walk our dogs down the tow path from Whitchurch to Grindley Brook Locks. It is always good to see the boats queuing up to enter the locks and see them rising and falling as the water level changes.
This place has really grown on me from the location to the staff, the 2 dogs and food. Close to the Shropshire union canal and some good walks it is perfect in both winter and summer, friendly and homely with blurring wood fires giving it...More

Hello there, I live at Grindley Brook in the Canalside house you can see in the recent photo Graham V took. You should be absolutely fine, just take your time. There is a lock-keeper on at Grindley Brook at busy times and they operate on a three up and three down rule and boaters are very helpful too. We are plenty of boaters from NZ and Australia and depending on where you are starting from, you may be well use to locks by then. Don't rush and give yourself plenty of time.
