Can’t believe the comment from @sterob2107 What many people fail to realise is that there is actually legally no public right of way to the Priory. Mattersey Priory is privately owned. I know this as a friend of mine used to own one of the...More

Good picnic spot & interesting history & ruins of the priory. Quiet location. Badly signed & hard to find down a bumpy unmade track. No facilities at hand.

I have been to visit Mattersey Priory on three separate occasions. On the first occasion I went with my partner; we both found the site very interesting and would have recommended it to others. However on my second visit, I arrived to find the owner...More

A very quiet spot, not a lot to see but interesting. This was one of the few Gilbertine monastic houses that were built, prior to the reformation. It is managed by English Heritage, there is no entry charge, and parking is a little difficult.

Not very big but interesting, very bumpy track to get to it. Well looked after but would only be a short visit as very little to do after you looked around the remains.

The Priory is an interesting bit of history well worth seeing. Abbey road is just a track which we have walked, cycled and drove down. Its very peaceful with views of the river Idle, in the middle of farm land. All Saints Church Mattersey is...More

Firstly the priory is not off Church Lane it is actually on Abbey Road (clue in the road's name I suppose). Abbey road is a dirt track that you follow for a good half mile before you reach the priory ruins that are adjacent to...More
