Had a nice time at the farm. The tour guide is knowledgeable on the subject.
They currently have 14 species and expanding.
Also have a few other animals.
Iguana, tortoises, spiders and porcupines.
Didn't have time for a snack, but a tea garden is available.
Playing area for kids.

Really enjoyed my visit here and was so well looked after by the staff and also my guide. I learnt a lot about butterflies and their life cycle and spent some time in the butterfly houses taking pics. There is not a wide variety of butterflies, but enjoyed the ones that were there.
I do suggest that the TV gets upgraded. The picture was faded and quality poor. Not the way to enthuse visitors.
Note that there are also a few spiders on show.

What a beautiful place to take your children! They loved the experience. Beautiful butterflies. Esp I the hot house. (Was rainy weather when we went) they are currently busy making the place nice again post covid. Also cool spiders and bunnies to see. Tour also very informative

This butterfly facility at Ramsgate, Kwazulu Natal South Coast has been created with impressive stylistic architecture. It was well stocked with indigenous species, and you could see the life cycles happening as there were caterpillar food plants in the main flying area. The guide was well informed, and gave an interesting presentation.

Not too sure what to tell you, the going rate is R80,00 per person, they will insist that you revisit the place when you have paid, when they know that most of the butterflies are sleeping.

During the presentation, the lady bad-mouths all of their competition, but in all honesty I would rather visit their competition (based next to the Ramsgate waffle house) where you are able to take your little one, save R50,00 per couple and see thousands of butterflies.

I was there for about 20 minutes and saw roughly 20 butterflies, had to look very hard on behalf of my 2 year old.

I guess that the purpose that they serve is of good intention, but as in life everything comes at a price, I just feel that it's not worth your time and money.

Luckily we missed the 50 minute video, that would have been difficult to watch, rather go home and put on some animal planet/ planet discovery, go and get a waffle, and be your own tour guide at the "bad competitors farm"

They differentiate themselves by stating they breed with the butterflies, not to sure if this is different from what happens via mother nature, pretty sure they are far from inseminating hundreds of eggs per year.

Also, they only have a handful of plants that allow the butterflies to lay their eggs, so where does the money go? surely not to the staff, they insist on additional sponsors from clients that already paid.

Anyway, I hope this review helped.

Take your R160.00 and maybe just buy your own plan, and get some butterflies at home.

I couldn't find a picture of my daughter playing with a butterfly, because they only have a handful.

We loved the experience. Beautiful butterflies.
The tour was interesting and informative. The kids (and adults) absolutely loved the interaction with the butterflies.
They also have a nice area with rabbits, chickens and some small animals that you can pet. The cake is worth a try!

The best thing, we could go back for a week, included in your entrance fee. The kids went back to see the butterflies and interact with the animals while we had some coffee and cake on another day.

Enjoyed the tour. The business is under huge financial stress due to covid. There is only 2 butterfly farma still open. Will recommend to anyone to visit the farm and support this awesome cause. Thanks

Im sorry to say but this place had passed the ”shall be used before” date. The place need maintenance, more butterflies and modern technic to show information. The worsed thing was that there was a dead little rabbit inside the yard where children could play with them. Sad that they dont care about their animals better.

Thought we would visit the Ramsgate Butterfly Farm with the family during our holidays. What a disappointment. The facility is run down and in serious need of a thorough revamp. The entry fees are a total rip-off for what you actually see and learn. Starting the tour in a dingy gift shop selling Barbie dolls amongst other unrelated items sets the tone for the rest of the visit. Having to sit through a video presentation showing the migration of Monarch butterflies from Canada to Mexico on and old video system is totally unnecessary. Would not recommend this to anyone.

Our previous visits to butterfly parks were all basically strolling at leisure and watching the butterflies.
But this one is different.
They take you on a tour with a guide - showing you all the different life cycles of the butterfly. Very interesting and we learned lots of new things. I think it is important for children to actually see where butterflies come from.
Very entertaining afternoon.
