After reading all the great reviews of the place we thought we would go for a visit. Not a tea garden at all. Only thing on the menu was pizza, and the pizza was delicious, but my grand parents don't eat pizza. The Craft beer was such a disappointment , had to wait 20min for the gentleman to pour me one beer. The dogs begging for food had me irritated and to top it off when we wanted to pay the owner was nowhere to be found, as there are no waiters to pay. We could have left easily without paying. I wouldn't go back for a visit!!!!

Went and did a taster of all 6 craft beers on tap - they are fantastic! Really different from others we've had elsewhere (different in a good way). Andries was incredibly informative and helpful. We loved it so much that we went back for more ;) Tried their pizzas which were AMAZING! Go. Try it. You need to.

If fine dining is what you have in mind, you will be disappointed. A family run affair with a relaxed and unpretentious atmosphere. No formal tables and chairs, garden tables and plastic chairs that can be moved to accommodate your party. A lot of dogs lying around, all abandoned dogs that found heaven. So if you go with an open mind to eat delicious pizza and drink craft beer you will be in for a treat. The pizzas are divine and all freshly made in a huge pizza oven. The children had milkshakes and they were not just pretty to look at but delicious. I will visit again.

Quite a nondescript place and you could easily drive right past it. Read the below reviews for directions. We drove there just after the rains and the gravel road was a bit bumpy at times (to put it mildly). Like others we weren't quite sure what to expect! However the craft beer is superb!! We unfortunately didn't have time to enjoy one of their pizza's but others rave about them in other reviews. Well worth a visit if you're in the area.

I read of L'abri on tripadvisor and was eager to visit. To find it was a bit difficult, but let me give you directions. Drive from Bela Bela towards Tabezimbi, go past Mbisi and Mabalingwe, just past Mabalingwe you will find a sign that say DIEPDRIFT on the right, there you turn right. follow the dirt road for 7km, you will see a road turning left, 800m from turning you will find L'abri. The place looks lapidated, but don't be fooled, you will find some of the best pizzas you have ever had, and it is in the bush of all things. All is run by 4 people and it include the craft beer. If you are in that area you have to visit, you will not be disappointed.

Really good selection of craft beers and unbelievably great pizza's in the middle of the bush. Good to give them a buzz first to make sure they are open.

We were on safari one day in the middle of nowhere in Northern South Africa when our guide asked if great beer and pizza was worth a bit of a detour. We're suckers for that sort of punishment, so off we went. He drove, I can't begin to tell you where it is.
Doesn't look like much from the outside, don't be deterred by the junk car out front. It's actually part of the art, as you'll discover inside.
Wind past the gate and the Farm Store (worth a look all by itself) and you'll pass an impressive outdoor stone wood-fired pizza oven. The restaurant is tiny, with a bar about six feet wide.
We had several creative and delicious pizzas, and tried all of the half-dozen beers on tap. I'm a bit of a beer snob, but didn't realize until I got there how strong the microbrew scene is in South Africa.
The country sets the bar really high, but L'abri clears it with room to spare. A couple of beers were plenty good, a couple were excellent, and the best two rank in my personal best top group worldwide.
South Africa is two long plane rides from where I live in Colorado. I'd go back just to visit L-abri again.

We are always on the lookout for something different, and we found just that. We came across L'abri Farm Shop and discovered this little hidden gem just outside Bela Bela. L'abri Fountain Brewery is a quaint set up. We chose to do a tasting for the day. 6 home brewed beers, Lager, Blonde, Weiss, English bitter and 2 stouts). My husband loves his stout and they were definitely worth the trip alone. I even became a fan.
All the beers were smooth and easy drinking. One can only experience these beers at L'abri as they do not bottle. Keeping the beer on tap below 2° makes for a refreshing experience.
We chatted to the owners while having our beer tasting. Great conversation and really welcoming.
Thanks for a wonderful afternoon, we will be back.
Kera and Andries.

We wanted to acknowledge your enchanting pizza oasis in the hot climes. The group of Canadians you entertained (dogs included) enjoyed our experience so much! Thanks again, best lager ever!!!

A good place to relax in the garden and enjoy trying the different beers while eating a pizza made to order in their huge oven. Friendly family run and peaceful spot set in the midst of game country. Best to use GPS to get there. S 24 152778 E 28 010000
