The Red Tarns Track is about 90% steps so even though it's only two hours long, it's a challenge. Your efforts are rewarded by views of Mt Cook Village and the surrounding plain, ringed by mountains with Aoraki/Mt Cook taking centre stage. The tarns area...More

This is a great walk up many steps to a wonderful lookout with views of Mt Cook. You climb about 300m so it does require a decent level of fitness!

As others have mentioned, there are well built steps with 4x8 that goes up most of the section of the track. It's a thigh burning stair steppers. Views of the glacier lake and the Mount Cook valley.

This was a really cool hike. It was very hard going up and down. Their were numerous steps (somewhere I read over 1200 of them). But when you arrive at the top, what a wonderful view and sense of accomplishment!

This is a difficult hike since it is 90% stairs and it feels like you're going straight up the entire time. I sadly didn't make it to the top, but I was told by other hikers that it was gorgeous!
