A must see along the road from Christ church to greymouth or vice versa. Absolutely stunning views. Plus point: you might see a kea or two if you are lucky. We had 2 drop in on us hoping for some food. Don't feed them as...More

Beautiful view. Cheeky keas in the car park :) Great location to get a good view of the viaduct. Worth stopping

It is well worth spending 15-20 minutes looking down at the Otira Viaduct and visualising the difficulties the old road caused when travelling between the East and West coasts. The viaduct is not spectacular when compared with those in European countries. However, it is a...More

Otira viaduct is south of Otira, in-between Otira and Arthur's Pass summit. The viaduct was completed in 1999 and carries State Highway 73. It spans a stretch of unstable land, replaced dangerous sections of road which often was closed by avalanches slips. its an impressive...More

We stopped here and had some beautiful views of the viaduct. We also saw some tame kea birds. The weather was very windy. Limited parking, but then it was not crowded when we were there.

Viewpoint overlooking the new viaduct from the old road. It's an impressive feat of engineering, but normal for what you would see in, say, Italy, or France. The actual landscape is very rough. Beware of kias around here - they are VERY inquisitive (and DON'T...More

Easy access into and out of the lookout. Not only is there a stunning view but you get to see quite a few inquisitive and friendly keas. Don't feed the keas and keep objects like trinkets on your backpacks out of their reach as they...More

Due to the inclement weather it took us three attempts as we travelled around the area to actually see it. There are far more impressive viaducts around the world, but only takes a few minutes so why not. The area has a handful of Kea's...More

This viaduct is a substantial bit of NZ engineering replacing a dangerous bit of road up the mountainside. Now a bit of the old road forms a good viewpoint for the viaduct and steep valley that it traverses. The bush was bright with flowering rata...More

It's worth while to stop and see what has been created here. We all sat on the big rocks for quite awhile and enjoyed the view down the valley.
