The visit starts with a pleasant drive on a narrow winding road from the plains below. You drive past Buddhist Temples in good preservation dating from the arrival from India of the first monks. I suggest walking down hill through this area on the downhill return. Then eventually after about another 20 minutes you arrive near the top for parking and final 10 minute walk to the top with wonderful views and a clan of monkeys to keep your distance from. Worth maybe 30 minutes stay. Also it is possible for a day hike up the mountain but the services are limited. Our group went by tourist bus.

I've been planning this trip for like a month, to Lianyungang, just to see these damn monkeys.
Saw a few at the beginning in the cage, not what I was looking for, wanted to see them running around me and try to steal my stuff. Seen signs warning tourists about monkeys pretty much everywhere and at last the only monkeys I've seen were 50 m away on a cliff next to the peak.
I walked down hoping to see some monkeys, because it was getting late and and I was pretty much alone on a mountain. Didn't see any, I've seen dogs, cats, even some random goats, but no monkeys.
Also at the entrance they sold me a raft ticket, had no idea about the price, so I just paid 120 for both. Didn't know when they were closing so I didn't really plan it ahead, walked all the way down to the raft just to walk the same path back with a million mosquitoes chasing me, because it was closed. The thing looked pretty run down to be honest, maybe they just sold me the ticket so that they could get some people to ride it.
To summarize it, 33k steps later, seen about 10 monkeys. Steps/monkey seen ratio is pretty bad I'd say.
PS: I left the park late and no buses were working anymore, so pay attention to it. I was lucky that just before I was about to get a Didi a guy asked me whether I need a lift, he would take me back to the hotel for 30, instead of 70+ if I were to take a Didi, so I just said yes right away.
PSS: if you buy water from the vending machine you will save 2 Yuan. But don't wait too long with buying, because machines are not all the way to the top and some are broken.
PSSS: first time using TripAdvisor, tried to upload pictures several times, but this site keeps fu*king me over, so no pics for you :(

I was on a trade mission and stopped here. The ride and views and monuments were great. Drive within 200 yards of the top and wheelchair accessible walkways. Watch out for the tricky and grumpy monkeys. The Buddhist monastery and temple enroute is worth a walk down the mountain. It is also near the waterfall with the underground passage. Probably a total 3 hour visit.

The title describes it exactly. My fitness app shown after the visit 69 floors walked. And this really the stairs only. So, make sure you are in good condition ;)
To the scenic self: We drove up the mountain by car from the back side. A really small path through the rocks of this mountain. If you have a car, I suggest this way. Otherwise you can take a bus (20yuan) for uphill. There are some interesting spots on this mountain. Like a waterfall cave, strange rock formations, temples and all over are monkeys. The monkeys are cheeky, naughty and they try take all of you what you don't hide. There are toilets enough, snacks and water (5rmb/bottle) everywhere. You should calculate 4 hours to step to each scenic point. On the bus stop on the temple you can book a downhill on tube boat. (no idea about the price).... Enjoy your day there :)

Huaguoshan is the highest mountain in Jiansu province and well known as Sun Wukong's birthplace. If you are a lover of Xiyouji (Magic Monkey), it deserves a visit. You can climb to the top of the mountain, if you are fit. Otherwise it is recommendable to take a rope way or a bus.

Overall, a nice place. But there are too many people there. The views are nice and the place is pretty clean. If you are in the area, it is definitely a place to visit.

We went with a tour group on a rather cloudy day. Still, it was lovely! We took a tour bus to the top and took a short hike to the top. No views to be seen because of the clouds, but we were welcomed by a wild monkey perched on one of the rocks. There is a nice temple, a water fall and cave, beautiful natural surroundings. This is apparently the top attraction in the area. It was rather crowded, but so are most areas in China. We took the chair lift back down. Lines were long, but efficient. I would love to return on a clear day, though.

This is were Journey to the West was made!
Take the 25 RMB bus up to the last stop and walk down. Make sure its a sunny day and bring water. You can also take the chair lift for 30 RMB, but it won't stop. You have to get off while its still moving. Great Views, can't wait to go back.
