Go! Fantastic hikes. Views are sick. Booked Brandon as a private guide ($35). He’s amazing. Cannot recommend him or these hikes enough. Do this and Santa Ana volcano. Great experiences!

This place rocks.. Contrary to what many people say about El Salvador I found it very safe to travel.. I got here from San Salvador for less than 5 dollars this includes the way back. 5dollars gave me a day full of fun and trill.. From San Salvador a bus to El congo and another up to casa kristal, then a short walk to the meeting point,, although the bus can be taken all the way up to the final stop at cerro verde the walk was hard at times with some lose rocks all the way up... And down, be sure to wear shoes with grip... The views however are expectacular at the top of the volcan de Santa ana I could see the crater with its jade sulfuric water which I got told is also super hot. The volcan de izalco as well as the lago de coatepeque can be seen from the top.. Take enough liquid and a hat also and yes a camera for the memories.. Highly recommended (small fee to enter the volcan area plus guide dination)

This was an amazing experience for me. I went with my husband and a few of his cousins. It was an absolutely gorgeous day to be on an absolutely gorgeous volcano! I could not have asked for a better experience. I took some amazing photos of the landscape. For anyone who enjoys rummaging through trees as much as I do, this is a must visit place for you! I was even able to see some rainforest wildlife.

I recently visited the cerreo Verde park with a friend who was visiting. I go fairly often so I know the options quite well. From Cerro verde one can opt for one of 2 4 hour hikes either climbing the Santa Ana or Izalco volcanos. I generally include a short visit then head to the ruta de flores. The park offers a short and easy hike(45 minutes) around the old crater of the Cerro Verde volcano. This requieres a local guide(all are volunteers) and no price(voluntary tip) I gave $5. The guides are great a full of information(in Spanish). On the hike you will stop and see the Santa Ana volcano and the Coatepeque lake, from the parking lot you can get a great view of the Izalco volcano. The park charges $1/person and $1 for parking. The climb itself is not particularly difficult however it is still a climb so go prepared to hike. The cost is $3 to get in the park, then $1 each for the guide and police and then they request a donation for the conservation of the mountain. The views from the top of Santa Ana are absolutely spectacular!!! The crater lake is amazing as is the surrounding view. Take bus 248 from the bus terminal located at calle 11a poniente and av F Moraga Sur. It's a white building with green writing, next to the giant grocery store. Note the when returning bus 248 come at 4pm and doesn't go back to Santa Ana direct. You switch buses (the driver will tell you where) and the new bus takes you into the city about 2 blocks from the terminal.
The climb is well worth the journey and the food stall food is amazing!

Tip: bring water, sunscreen and light clothes.
There are guides available for free (volunteers).
Pros: great views (check my pics), peaceful, fresh, nice for (short) treks.

Came here to do some hiking and see not only volcanic crates/formations but tons of wildlife (specifically birds).

Came across this park by chance. A worker in my hotel told me about the Santa Ana volcano and the hike starting at 11am at El Tibet. I asked our driver to take us there and we did the hike up to the summit. It was a great experience but you do have to be in decent shape. Going up and coming down took over 4 hours but it was worth it. We connected with nature and the views from the top were amazing. I can now tell people that I climbed a volcano. The guides and policemen that escort the tour were great. They were friendly and informative. We did tip them at the end.

If you want to do the 4 hour hike to and from the crater, the microbus leaves right at 11am from the cerro verde area. We missed it so we took the 45 minute tour with one of the tour guides. It was really good!! He was very informative and patient with us. The tour is free but PLEASE tip your guide. Many are students and share the proceeds with the tour guides. We had lunch at the little outside restaurant. It was sooo good! We had the chicken soup and a pupusa; both were delicious. We shopped at the artesania booths outside; very good pricing!

I would have liked to spend more time here but the itinerary didn't allow. Instead I made do with a pleasant walk through trails that gave many spectacular views and photo ops. The park is maintained very well. My advice is to give yourself plenty of time to have a good hike, it's only about 30 minutes from Santa Ana.

Al parque del cerro verde se pueden llevar mascotas mi perrito es tranquilo y nosotros andamos como recoger su pupu y no lo saltamos lo andamos siempre con nosotros???

Fíjate creo que si se pueden llevar perritos ! yo e visto perritos ahí con sus dueños y también hay perros que andan ahí de el lugar, asi que si creo que si se puede! Así que llevalo a que disfrute !
