Aw, I really, really want this line to succeed and reach its fulfilment, even potential, but is it able to?

I visited August Bank Holiday Monday where, as many museums, it turned itself over to wartime... read more

We had high hopes for an afternoon ride on a steam train, these were dashed as we got to the end of the line just 7 minutes after leaving the station at Cranmore. If we'd have known the line was so short we probably wouldn't...More

As always, I open with the warning that I review and mark the experience against my expectations. Having previously lived just a couple of miles from Cranmore and being aware of the limitations of this small enterprise, my expectations were low. Sadly it didn't even...More

I visited August Bank Holiday Monday where, as many museums, it turned itself over to wartime memories etc, which gave the line an added interest on that day, in fact over the weekend. However, despite the information on the website, there were no wartime vehicles...More

East Somerset Railway was a location that we never heard of until this week. Travelling from London towards Cheddar Gorge, we had seen signs for this place and made our way to check it out. Arriving on the Saturday, we had seen it to be...More

I suppose you ask for trouble when you say you are friendly and it seems a shame some visitors have not been impressed. For me it was charming and extremely friendly with a great chat in the signal box with a terrific chap. Foul weather...More

We have mixed feelings about the East Somerset Railway. The big plus point was that the locomotive pulling the train was an ex British Railways loco (46447), rather than a former industrial loco that spent its working life in a steelworks or colliery, that a...More

Hello Steveanne-2 Thank you for your review, and sorry we didn't meet your expectations. I am not sure what day you visited, if you email us at info@eastsomersetrailway.com to provide more information then I can certainly investigate and pass on your comments to the staff.

We so enjoyed our visit and the friendly welcome. Also the visit to the engine shed and the opportunity to ride an engine! The cafe attached was good value too.

Like another reviewer, I've been here from time to time over the years and watched the results of the hard work from the volunteers reclaiming the railway from years of neglect and dereliction. But now, curiously, they seem to have given up with that and...More

Hello Janus2000 Thank you for your review and I am saddened to hear that you didn't enjoy it. As you said we are building the second platform and the new 'Discovery Centre' is due for completion end of this year. The museum and waiting room...More

We went on the 'Tea Train' that runs on selected mid week days. Cranmore Station start and finish, a very enjoyable but a short ride at slow pace.
