This Chateau has multiple levels. The oldest are at the top of the hill and require some climbing on uneven stone stairs. The newer parts down the hill are less interesting and typical of other Chateau in this area of France. La Roche-Guyon is a...More

Lacsk the little extra. Could have been so much better if the Place was more furnished, but interesting place off the tourist track. Partly built into the cliff, it is really something else in this sleepy town. Only French in the chatau so we missed...More

I cajoled my wife into visiting and she actually enjoyed it ! Reasonably priced you get a little sheet to guide you round the chateau with a bit of info about each location. You take it at your own pace and linger where you want....More

La Roche-Guyon is located in the regional park of Vexin. The village grew around the chateau de la Roche-guyon. The castle was built in the 12th century overlooking the loop of the Seine River since the middle ages. The first castle was entirely cut in...More

From the top of the keep above the chateau the view is to die for. There is a long hard climb to the top but its worth it. The chateau itself is in poor repair and makes you thankful for our English Heritage and National...More

The chateau looks nice from the outside. The rooms are, unfortunately, mostly empty. Unless you speak French, you need to do your research in advance—virtually no information is available at the site. This is a historic location and the failure to convey its history is...More

We visited the château yesterday morning and, as far as we knew, were the only visitors. It's quite an impressive building and some of the rooms, especially the large gallery, are very nice. There are 4 large tapestries which seem well preserved or restored. In...More

There are other places in the world, and in the village where workshops and houses are built into a chalk cliff but this is a big chateau with a ruined castle on the top of the hill above it. The modern history is that it...More

When my husband told me we were going to a Chateau where Rommel stayed. My reaction was another one of those boring places he likes! But I really enjoyed it , it was a unique chateau, built in the chalk of the hillside. In fact...More

We stumbled across this place by chance - and we're surprised to find it so interesting. The view from the dungon justifies the entry fee by itself. The audioguide is in French but ask for the leaflet in English. You need lots of energy for...More

Good morning Mikeym6372, If your excursion only includes the visit of the castle, then I personally think it's too expensive. If you decide to visit la Roche-Guyon, you'll find enough information at the tourist office... More

Hi - so sorry - have been away. On this occasion I'm not able to help. We were passing through and had accommodation and restaurants booked elsewhere.
