Stayed overnight at Casa Arcada - clean and cute. Walked up Scalata Vulcano - worth doing with closed shoes, great view. Dinner at La Piazzetta - delicious and fresh tourist menu, wine was superb, staff very helpful with me being coeliac. The island is unique,...More

If you visit Vulcano to make the walk to the top of the mountain, then the trip is worthwhile. Different corners of the small island are interesting, with impressive viewpoints over the other Aeolic islands. Boats take you on a regular basis to Lipari and...More

Our second ascent of the crater - the first was in 2001 - and just as awe-inspiring. The route from the hydrofoil terminal is clearly marked. The ascent is a steady grind, as is to be expected, with the reward of good views along the...More

A one hour helicopter ride from Palermo brings you to this beautiful Eolian island. Its main attraction is the trekking around the volcano, a one hour tour. You can see as far as the Stromboli from the summit. After the climb a bath in a...More

We hiked up Vulcano in the sun and heat (37 degrees Celcius). The road is sandy, gravelly, and relatively steep. But our effort was rewarded. The panoramic view was well-earned. The large crater is a very interesting sight. The view over the other islands was...More

Would not recommend Mariano Recupero for taxi service. Charges were exorbitant. We took him to/from the fort to other side of the island for lunch and a swim. He took an unnecessarily long route there and the return caused us to almost miss our ferry...More

Hiking Vulcano crater is not that difficult (possible with kids) and offers a great view to the island, port and other islands. The hike takes max.1.5h and smells like sulphor in some parts. The view of crater is amazing!
