We had a private tour and Medieval dinner and entertainment with Scenic River Cruises. It was a wonderful experience. The castle is well preserved and you can feel what it was like to live in that time. Wear comfortable shoes because there is a climb...More

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to live in a castle? Touring the Marksburg castle was an adventure in itself. Wear good walking shoes as the floors and walkways are in their original states and, therefore, uneven. The castle itself is well...More

Wear comfortable shoes and be prepared to walk uphill and then climb a large number of steps. This would not be for someone with mobility problems. Easy to see why the castle was never conquered or breached---very impressive. Magnificent view overlooking the Rhine

This is the oldest still intact castle in Germany. We visited it while on a tour with Viking. It is a bit of climb to the castle and there are some tight steps within the castle, but it is well work it.

The castle is located high on the hills and is relatively cheap to visit compared to similar places in the UK. Climbing up to the castle and the stairs inside make it challenging for people with mobility problems but it is worth the effort. The...More

Was one of the excursions on our Rhine River Cruise with Viking. This is the only castle on the Rhine that has withstood the test of time (all the wars). i would highly recommend it to all travelers if you get the chance to go.

Sits atop a mount and looks at the river Rhine. Immaculately maintained castle, a rarity in Germany where many beautiful castles were destroyed in the wars, is a must see for those who like medieval history and scenic views. The drive there from Frankfurt is...More

It’s not really an easy place for those who are unsteady on their feet as the inclines in the castle are uneven and there are lots of cobbles. The steps up from the car park are pretty steep and hard for the unfit although... More

Thank you everyone for taking time to respond! The staff from Marksburg Castle also responded by email to say that the only transportation to the castle is by taxi--no bus or tram.
