About
A castle that is dreamily reflected in the water, a park of over 80 hectares, the old town right next door - all this invites you to linger. For over 700 years Buckeburg Castle has been a living mirror of the times. Around the 13th century, the castle Buckeburg was first mentioned under the name "buckeborch" as a residential and defense tower. It served to guard an important long-distance trade route that led from the Baltic to the Rhine. The sixteenth century (1560-1620) had the greatest impact on Schloss Buckeburg: The medieval fortification developed into a splendid Renaissance castle. Then, in the 18th century (1732), the facades and interiors were redesigned in Baroque style. Discover an elapsed glittering time on one of the numerous castle tours.

The place is nice. However, you can get inside only with a guide, and guided tours are only in German. Also, keep in mind that you need to pay an additional 5 euros for permission to take pictures inside. Besides that the palace is nice, has a lot of stories and is worth visiting.

The ‘Castle looked very nice and the surrounding gardens were lovely for a walk. Although the garden flowers need quite a bit of attention and were not looking their best.

The castle has tours at certain times; unfortunately we didn't have time to go on a tour (though they did say it would include English). We walked around the grounds for about an hour and the outside of the castle and the grounds around it are absolutely gorgeous. There was nearby parking, and outside the castle grounds there are a lot of cafes/restaurants and shops. If in the area, definitely stop for a visit.

We took a tour of Buckenburg Castle and it was unbelievable. The castle was built in the 1300's and has been in operation ever since. Several additions have been made to the castle. I was amazed by the beauty and opulence of the inside and outside. The tour guide was very knowledgeable regarding the castle and it's history. Since we were on a group tour, we were able to have translators with us to interpret German into English. This is one of the coolest places that I have ever had the opportunity to visit. If you want to photograph the inside of the castle, there is a fee of 5 Euros per camera.

We loved our castle tour, had lots of questions that were answered and explained. Very patient and knowledgeable staff. We had lunch at the restaurant in the castle which used to be the kitchen. The prince who still lives in the castle ended up having lunch at the same time. That was neat!

Buckeburg is one of the few places in germany that still have a kind of monarchy.
I grew up in that small town, for us it was normal to skate on the moat in the winter, play in the parks surrounding this beautiful castle, climb the trees or feed the ducks and horses.
I left when I was 16, thinking the place is boring - but now, a tad older I appreciate it far more. The lordship who still lives there has opened the building up for conducting marriages now, which I was fortunate enough to attend one. The building inside is a gorgeous as outside. In the winter they hold the Christmas market there and in the summer a medieval festival brings people from far and wide (even though the castle does not date from the medieval times)
Take a picknick and enjoy...

This Schloss is without doubt, magnificent, & worth the time & effort. But even more magnificent, & truly wondrous, are the public riding displays, to classical music, that this palace's 450-year-old Court Riding School - the only one in Germany - schedule to "showcase a range of dressage skills from different periods of history". The beautiful animals performing derive from a variety (? 6) of Baroque breeds; the skilled riders are dressed in traditional Baroque costumes. Words fail to adequately describe this awesome, thrilling, moving experience, where horse & rider move as one through the most intricate of choreography, the mutual respect & trust evident. What was difficult to believe, according to the display guide, was that this School is not widely known - even though exceptional students go there to study & learn enhanced riding skills. A situation that certainly needs redressing soonest!

Incredible castle and tour. Wow!
The tour guide and staff at the castle were very helpful and added English to their normal German only tour.

This lovely Castle is a must see. The building itself was created in many centuries and therefore shows many styles. In the Castle you will find a lot of art, also from famous painters.
The guided tour is interesting and informs you well about German and regional history.
Don’t forget to visit the Park too. It is marvellous.
