We were here the evening of Saturday,Dec.11,and left early. It was like Venice at Carnival time. The pedestrian traffic was completely blocked. Sometimes you can have too much success. The village center is quaint and probably interesting at another time, but under these circumstances it was...More

Esslingen is a picturesque town with half-timbered timbered houses along the river Neckar. The perfect backdrop for a christmas and medieval market. The main square holds a traditional christmas market, which is fine but similar to all other markets in Germany. The real treat here...More

I was on business and my hosts brought me to the Christmas market on the opening night. . It was fantastic and really made me feel Christmasy. Esslingen is a beautiful city which is made even more stunning by this market.

Esslingen is easily reached by S-bahn from Stuttgart (about 15 minutes) and is well worth a visit (with or without the market!). The Christmas market is part 'normal' market (in the main market square) and part medieval, ie, the stalls and stall keepers are set...More
