We were in Piura. To arrive at mancora is to arrive at a paradise, people from many parts see this beach as the best they can visit as the Sun, the Sand, the Sea, the people of mancora, everything is perfect for a magnificent weekend. :-)

I went surfing with Team Szairo in Mancora - one of the many surf schools around and one of the view that offers a surf-trip. I made the mistake of booking this one. I was told I would get a class in the morning and afternoon (much needed as I am a total beginner) but it turned out the son of the owner took me to a beach one city further, gave me a board and a wetsuit and told me good luck. I just tried to imitate other surfers, but learnt afterwards that it is actually extremely dangerous for a beginner to try catching those higher waves. The next day I took a regular surfing class, but apart from how to stand up I did not really learn anything. Would suggest another surfing school therefore. The city itself is very relaxed, could recommend it to everyone!

The north of Perú is wonderfull! I have been in Mancora, two hours from Piura, really the first time, I went from Lima in a bus, Mancora has the most beautiful beaches I have already see, I have been in the caribean and Mancora is really the best! Pocitas, Vichayicito, Organos, El Ñuro, and Punta Sal, only 20´ from Mancora. You can swim with big tourtles in "El Ñuro" .In Mancora, you can do anything you want, the ocean is perfect and the sports too, the food is very good and the prices are low to stay, you can get from 10 dollars a good hotel with a private bathroom, in the town market you can eat very easy and very cheap, Then I travell to Pimentel in Chiclayo, is very pretty, the "Caballitos de totora" are around the beach, you can walk and know another beaches. Please DONT go to the travell agencieas there, you can do everything asking the peaple there, the agency travelleres are very expensives, is better to know the same with less money and the freedom that the agencies dont give, good luck! another day I will put photographs! bye

We booked a tour to see the whales. It is all very friendly for the environment and the money they make seemed to go to an organisation that does research of the whales. The tour included and Spanish and English guide and you get a little snack and water. Besides the whales they show you the turtles. We both really enjoyed this tour!

Went in to ask about fishing trips, and was told there were none available, but they tried to sell me a trip swimming with turtles. Now I am totally opposed to this interaction with wild turtles, who then become used to human contact, which puts them at severe risk of harm, and told the shop employee. He asked if I was a qualified biologist, and more or less told me to shut up and get out when I said I was simply a very concerned individual.
Very rude and unhelpful.

The truth is I was disappointed with tourism in Máncora, first they sold us a banana ride plus swimming with turtles. The walk was more like the transfer from the shore to where the turtles were... 2 minutes... then they had no equipment to see the turtles, and only one of them arrived.
Then we wanted to pay for a banana ride, a pass of only 15 minutes... for which they initially gave us one value and when we arrived at the place they gave us another.
Mancora is beautiful, but I think it needs to improve tourist service.
