On 15th January 2009 a fin whale beached on the strand in Burren, Kilbrittain Co Cork, Ireland. It was an enormous animal. The skeleton was put on display in a permanent position in the local village and is an amazing sight. There is a video with sound of the story of the whale. Free amenity. There is a picnic area with tables and a beautiful woodland walk with a historic castle in the background.

We saw this site on Atlas Obscura. Just a quick stop off the road, you can see the displayed skeleton of a whale that got beached in town. There's a kids playground there as well. Quick stop.

A credit to the community. They have created a beautiful playground around the skeleton of the Blue whale washed up in 2009. Zip line. Swings slides and suitable for all ages. Spotless and clean. Parking is very limited but you could park outside in the...More

This is really ideal for kids and, maybe, missable for most others. There's a nice playground - but limited parking. This would not be great in rainy weather.

The whale skeleton is presented and displayed in a smart way that makes it a good tourist attraction and a nice experience for children and may be adults as well, that is really admirable. However, the road signage was not the greatest and the roads...More

We had seen this poor whale after it died in 2009. Never knew the bones were on show. Found by accident today and my sons especially the sea life mad one were fascinated. Good parking lot just above...picnic area and a great playground.

We came across this place by accident when travelling through co. Cork. An unexpected discovery that led to another discovery of a picturesque walk way nearby.

a great playground. The whale - well he's dead but he's interesting and worth a stop to check him out. He probably needs a bit of a wash

We visited the whale recently and it's impressive to see but the real attraction was the playground for the kids. There is a car-park up behind the whale and the playground is next to it. The first park is for younger kids and has the...More
