After visiting Rochester Castle we popped into Eastgate house. What a beautiful building, definitely worth a visit with a little gift shop.

Originally I hadn’t planned on visiting but decided to just pop in and had a great time. It’s the type of house that you could get so much history from or just speed through admiring the house for what it is. The house is entirely...More

This is owned by the local council but is well looked after. The staff were very helpful and pointed out the best way to go around the house. The information boards were good with some old photos although we did spot a couple of typos...More

We visited Eastgate House on Friday 13 July. It was veery interesting and a delightful experience. We are local to Rochester but had never been to Eastgate before. It was a lovely afternoon out and where they have uncovered the painted wall coverings was first...More

I've often walked past Eastgate and tried to peer in the windows. Now conserved and re-opened, the contents are a little sparse but it's great to get the chance to enjoy some Rochester history close up. The views from the windows give a new perspective...More

We had never heard of Eastgate House before, but won free tickets with the Big Kent Day out. Rochester was a lovely day out, with a good hour spent here. It’s a small museum with some interesting exhibits, but I would be reluctant to pay...More

We had only been able to see the gardens last year but this time we were able to go inside Eastgate House. Many of the building's original features and decorative schemes have been carefully restored and new heating and lighting has been installed. There is...More

Great to read about how this grade 1 listed building was restored and brought back to life. Entry price was reasonable. Lots to inform inside...Loved the focus on Dickens.

We visited the Eastgate House yesterday at a cost of £5.50 each. Although a lovely old building it can hardly be called a museum, just some information boards and a lot of empty rooms. We came away feeling let down and overcharged. What a difference...More

Thank you for your review. We're sorry you found Eastgate House disappointing. We're very careful not to call Eastgate House a museum, as you so rightly observe, the exhibits that were once housed at Eastgate House when it was the museum are now on display...More

A fascinating building that has been very well restored and developed into a tourist attraction. A walk through the history of the house and a particularly interesting part of the story is the Charles Dickens interest. Definitely include a visit to this house on a...More
