Was disappointed with the number of pictures on show but fascinated by the number of photographs of persons from Montagu in years past - some lovely pictures of people unknown.
Of particular interest was an iron banister featuring farm implements from the past - what an intriguing way to display them

A fascinating trip down memory lane, and further: a wonderful exhibition of photographs from the Montagu archives, made possible by the hard work of Don Woodford, Theo Joubert, and Ida and Lemmy David. The exhibition contains restored photographs from different eras in the history of Montagu, from the earliest European settlement to the 1950s. Anyone interested in history, whether of Montagu in particular or any South African dorp in general, will find enjoyment and food for thought in this showcase of Montagu's rich history.

The historic KWV building houses the Museum Art Gallery in Montagu displaying the work of local artists.
The art gallery and museum although not large, was both enjoyable and interesting.
The old wagon was used to carry coffins by the voortrekkers, and the old switchboard was used in Montagu until 1975.
Isn't the decorative wrought iron staircase amazing.
Art work displayed was done using various mediums.
I particularly liked the flowers that were raised and glossy using a resin technique.

This is a project established by the Montagu Arts Association and displays of artwork (mainly paintings) by local artists are held on a regular basis. Although the running of the facility has recently been taken over by the Montagu Museum, regular art displays will continue to be held there.

This place has a rich and interesting history but perhaps the most interesting of all is their selection of herbs. I had a problem and had tried many (expensive) things. For only R60 I found a noninvasive way to completely ged rid of it. Thank you Montagu Museum and Art Gallery

The Montagu Museum reopened the Art Gallery in the KWV Building in Kohler Street's doors on Heritage Day -24th September 2103. There are also some fine remaining examples of historical industrial architecture in a rural area on permanent exhibit in the courtyard at back.

The KWV buildings, where the museum and gallery re housed, is c/o Long and Kohler Streets, and are fine remaining examples of historical industrial architecture in a rural area and were acquired by the Museum in the 1990’s.
The museum has been restoring the enormous façade in stages over the past years in an endeavour to restore it to its former glory.

I was there to see the exhibitions of children's art that forms part of the Montagu Youth Arts Festival that happens annually around this time of year. Children from schools in and around Montagu and from as far as Stellenbosch have created exceptional paintings and taken amazing photos this year. It's a beautiful, colourful display and well worth a visit.
