About
Moelstertunet is a picturesque farmstead, with sixteen buildings surrounding an open farmyard. All of the buildings are still standing right where they were when the last family moved out in 1927. Walking through the farmstead will give you a unique insight in building traditions and living conditions in older times. The oldest building on the farmstead, an open-hearth log house, dates from the early 1500s. In the nearby exhibition hall a comprehensive exhibition will tell you more about how people lived and worked in Voss in older times. The museum also displays temporary exhibitions throughout the year. Voss folkemuseum has a huge collection of artifacts, folk art, tools and other objects. There is also a big archive, a small library, and one of the biggest museum collection of photos in Hordaland. From Moelster you have a wonderful view of Vossevangen and the Vangsvatnet lake. At the entrance you will also find a small cafe With a great view and a Museum shop. May 18th - August 31st: open daily 10-17 September 1st - May 16th: Mondays-Fridays 10-15 Sundays 12-15

It was amqzing to see the history of the life back in the day that still exists, it's a beautiful moment just like taking me back in time when i was 5 years old and the life i could remember, the wooden house wh8ch was built from round timber, the tools for farming, the way the how we raised in a farm with everything f4eah from the garden, sorrounded with livestocks. It is simple but yet its healthy and beautiful . Those traditional clothes which is still practiced during special events and on national day. The kind of music whis is a music and not a noise and alot more to see, its truly worth a visit because i can only described a few but it's different when you personally experienced it, the feeling is somewhat more exciting. A must see when you are in Voss.

Famiy farming. Given its high mountains, steep hills to the fjords, and long, cold winters, Norway seems like it would have few farms. Yet, as we drove from Oslo to Bergen and back again, we saw several farms in addition to signs of extensive logging and fishing industries. At the Voss Folkemuseum, we learned that in farms throughout western Norway, it was not unusual for several families in the 1800s to live side-by-side and farm the same land. At the Fokemuseum is a farmstead, now part of the museum, which was once owned by two families. The sixteen buildings provide insight into building traditions and living conditions in bygone centuries. The oldest building is a log house with an open hearth (årestove), which is believed to be from about 1500, and the most recent building dates from the 1880s. The Folkemuseum is well worth a visit.

I love this place. I go whenever i can (3times now) and so should you! If you have been before you should definitely go again becuase they have opened up some new spaces and the museum is updated too. Siri nordgård was playing folk Music and she was so good and nice with the kids. I hope to go nextime when they are making flatbread.

I have kids under 6 and they had a lot of fun too. I have been with Babies too being an a carrier. All is good :).

Where you could learn about the old times and visit the old houses or farm
They even give you a booklet in English to read more about the place
At least 2 hours needed to enjoy the place and the history

A time tunnel back to the late medeavel farming life in Norway. The farmhouse complex is well presevered. The exhibition house is interesting. Make sure to take a look at the breathtaking views over Voss. There is a haiking path which runs behind the museum if you are interested in haiking :)

Totally worth it ,made me travel back in time.Nice view and welcoming tour guides. I mostly liked the fact that they haven't changed anything of what is inside the farm.

We enjoyed our trip to the Voss Folkmuseum. The fact that it was made on an actual 1500’s farm houses makes it so special. I recommend getting the guided tour.

Unlike many other folk museums, where the buildings have been moved to the site from elsewhere, these buildings are all in their original locations and provide a rich atmosphere of what farm life was like for hundreds of years up to the 1920s. The exhibits and cafe in the newer, adjoining building were not open when we were there but their unavailability did not detract from the excellent overall experience. A friendly, knowledgeable docent added to our education about these venerable farmsteads.
