- Scotland71Cork, Ireland248 contributionsLovely public beachLovely beach next to Malia, twixt there and Sisi. Busy but two beds/Brolly for the day. Pleasant and food vans nearby. Good for swimming and people watching. Great to get away from our poor hotel (Radisson at Milatos) for a few hours. Lots of parking and showers.Visited July 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 8 July 2023
- Matilda T19 contributionsLovely beach!Lovely sandy beach, very close to Mallia Palace if you want to visit there, and there's a bus station nearby. The beach is sandy and has lots of umbrellas and sun loungers available to hire for 15 euros which was reasonably priced in our experience. The sea is lovely apart from having a little bit of seaweed in it. There's a food van nearby which had a lot of food options and cold drinks at reasonable prices, and had a card machine.Visited July 2023Written 28 July 2023
- Scenic7903242 contributionsNice quiet beachIf you want to get away from the hustle of Malia beach, this place is perfect. Be warned the sand gets really hot in the sun! Got a taxi from Malia for 10 euros, purchased sunloungers, two for 10euro for the day. Great little snack bar to get drinks and food from. Sea was nice and warm. Overall perfect day at the beach!Visited August 2023Travelled with familyWritten 6 August 2023
- Rob P4 contributionsGreat beach!Fabulous beach. 10 euros for 2 beds and umbrella which we regarded as a bargain! The sea was clear and clean great for swimming and splashing about and the beach was nice and sandy with boardwalk as that sand did get hot! Food trailer onsite which was great and adequate for drinks and snacks both hot and cold options and with reasonable prices. Be prepared to wait while they make your food and drinks but definitely worth it.Visited August 2023Travelled with familyWritten 17 August 2023
- Janet M3 contributionsGood beachThis isn't as busy as the other beaches along the coast, so there is usually lots of available loungers and parasols to rent. The rest of the facilities are pretty basic. If you need a changing room there's only one and I could only see one shower and a couple of portaloos. Take your own picnic if you want to eat as the one snack bar will have a queue. There were a couple of vendors walking up and down when we were there, one selling fruit and the other offering massages.Visited August 2023Written 25 August 2023
- Clever T2 contributionsGreat beachThe locals preferred beach, €10 taxi ride each way from Malia strip. We had 1 umbrella/table with 3 sun beds for €15 all day. Water is great, clean, fairly calm with some snorkeling 20/30M out. The food hut is brilliant, gyros, burgers etc and most importantly cold beers & soft drinks all at very reasonable prices. Recommend.Visited July 2023Travelled with familyWritten 18 September 2023

Fantasctic big beach with clear water. You will always find a sunbed, which isn't very expensive, by the way. A good place for families.

We made a brief visit to Potamos Beach, of about an hour or so, during our stay in Malia. We had a car so we were able to drive there from our accommodation. The beach wasn't too crowded however it was quite rocky underfoot once you got to the waterline and further into the water according to my wife. The waves were also quite strong. I didn't make it into the water unfortunately as I was snoozing on the beach. After a short stay we moved on to Sissi for the rest of the day. Potamos Beach was ok for a visit but it's probably a good idea to bring water shoes due to the rocks.

A lovely beach, wide and deep golden sand. Plenty of sunbeds and umbrellas with a great taverna up on the main road. Shallow water

Hi can we had a taxi from palm bay sissi to this beach how far is it from sissi.

There is a taxi rank near the harbour and it shouldn’t be very expensive because Potamos beach is not far from Sissy. However, the bus service is quite good in the summer and there is a bus going to the antiquities of Malia (worth visiting, as not as busy as Knossos), which is near the Potamos beach. There is usually a time table at the bus stop, as well as the stops. We walked it from Malia town centre and it took us about half an hour on foot.

Potamos beach is a nature reserve ,so nearest places are in the Beach Road area of Malia . Its a 10 min easy cycle ride.

Is the parking area near the beach?

Cars park on the road along the beach but it gets very busy especially at weekends. Between the beach and the archaeological site the land is fine for parking, just a short walk to the beach, passing the Kalyva taverna if you need sustenance.

Hi, is there a bus service from Malia to Potamos Beach? I am staying at Kristilla Hotel Apartments, it's within walking distance so not the end of the world.

Hi,
I don’t think the bus goes to the beach but the little train passed us one day but not sure if you can hop on/hop off. The beach was worth the trip-a lot quieter than Malia and the sandwiches at the little canteen cabin were good and reasonably priced.
