This is a beautiful beach, but it’s a busy beach, surrounded by fancy hotels. We got there early, after coming from the Diamond head hike, about 8 am and it was perfect, not too busy at all. However, by the time we left (11am) it was already quite busy. Nothing wrong with that, it just depends on what kind of beach you like. This was the only beach I saw that offers tons of seating, shade etc from the hotels to rent. It was quite nice to watch the surf lessons and walk around waikiki area afterwards. It’s worth going for sure, just be aware of the type of beach this is.

Loved walking this area. The views are amazing with the mountains in the back round and most days when I was walking the water had lots of surfers too. You can catch drinks at several of the bars and of course Dukes Restaurant is right on the sand.

You’ll come here of course for the iconic view of the beach with diamondhead in the background, the warm water and waves, the people watching, watch the surfers, and enjoy a short walk to and from your hotel.
Yes all that is the case.
The flip side is that it is jam packed with people to the point where you may not be able to find room to set out a towel for yourself, let alone a group of people. The crowds, plus the loud music coming from the nearby hotels, made the beach not enjoyable to hang out.

Luckily, our hotel was steps away from this wonderful beach. We went swimming and snorkeling daily. It was such a treat. Highly recommended.

A friend and I enjoyed a day here soaking up the rays and swimming. Aqua shoes are a must as there are coral and rocks underwater, and that can easily cut your feet.

The Wall surfing area used to be surfboard free but on our first session we had to advise 3 different people that surfboards were not permitted in the area. Once was after a close to shore wipeout with a long board that could have injured swimmers. I know Hawaiian’s are polite but why aren’t the lifeguards stopping people on longboards surfing through the area? Alternatively why aren’t the companies that don’t explain the rules to the people hiring their longboards get fined?

Really spectacular beach with lots to do and see. The beach is free, but everything associated with it is expensive. Wish I would have snorkeled there.

Yes there are more secluded, quiet and beautiful beaches many other places on Hawaii, but we got our Brady Bunch goes to Hawaii vibe on and enjoyed this beach for two days in lounge chairs and under umbrellas. A great place to start a journey to these islands.

We want to come to Waikiki in November and maybe stay at the Sheraton, but I'm curious where the sun sets that time of year? Should we face Diamond Head or is it still better to face out direct oceanfront?

Sun come up over diamond head. However there is no bad view, sun rise or sunset.

We are staying in the Waikiki area at an AirBnB, about 0.5 mile walk from the beach. Should we bring our own chairs or are their places on the beach we could rent? Also, we’ll have a rental car - what are some recommendations on things (places, beaches, restaurants, ext) for a family of four to explore? Our kiddos 4 & 6 years old. TIA!

I was wondering how is the weather in Waikiki so far. Has it been sunny or cloudy? I will be leaving in two days for one week vacation down there in Waikiki Honolulu Hawaii and I was just wondering how the weather has been if it has been sunny or cloudy. I was hoping for sunny weather so I can get a tan. My first vacation ever so I really want to relax and enjoy it. Please let me know thank you.

The weather was nice when we were there in late January. You can look up weather predictions 10 days in advance online. That is what I did to know what to pack. Enjoy!

I planned on going to Honolulu Waikiki Hawaii from march 6 to march 12. I have been keeping an eye on the weather over there and noticed it says it will be cloudy no sun so far for march 6 and 7. And high of 79. Will it still be hot as nd be and beautiful to go swimming at the beach. Plus can you still get a tan and sunburn.

yes to both! the uv index is high as your closer to the equator and the saltwater drying on your skin also speeds up the burn or tanning process!
