I think this statue of King Kamehameha I might be one of the most iconic statues in the United States. Maybe it's because of TV shows, like Hawaii Five-0.
The first casting of this statue is located in North Kohala on the island of Hawaii. This second casting of the statue was erected here in 1883. The artist was Thomas Ridgeway Gould.
If you're taking an organized city tour, your tour bus might park and allow you to alight for a few minutes. More likely, it will stop to allow you to take pictures of this statue from the bus.
I was staying in Waikiki and rode a bicycle into this area so that I could tour and take photographs at my own pace. Sites I visited included: the State Capitol; St Andrew's Episcopal Cathedral; Honolulu Hale; Washington Place; the Hawaiian Mission Houses and Mission Memorial.
With reference to this statue specifically, taking photos can be a challenge. Depending on the time of day, there can be a lot of tourists milling about. And lighting varies, due to time of day and weather.
This site is worth visiting, simply because it such a nice statue, and carries such historic and cultural value.

Visiting Hawaii is absolutely amazing! However, make sure to take some time to learn some history. I never learned any Hawaiian history as a student so I made sure to take an opportunity to learn more during my vacation. The statue of King Kamehameha should be a definite stop while visiting Hawaii. However, you will only have an opportunity to see the statue. Make sure to take time to read and expand your knowledge about how King Kamehameha united the Hawaiian Islands in 1810. Also, June 11th of each year is Kamehameha Day. The statue is located directly across from the Iolani Palace which should also be quite interesting to visit.

In front of the Hawaii State Supreme Court is a bronze statue dedicated to the unifier of the Hawaiian Islands: King Kamehameha I. Because of him, the islands came under one unified rule. He did this in 1810 following years of conflict. The site of the battle that helped King Kamehameha I conquer Oahu is located at the Nuuanu Pali Lookout. Interesting of note, the first statue was shipped from Europe was lost at sea near Cape Horn. A second statue was created and is the one seen in Honolulu. However, the one that was thought lost appeared and is located on the Big Island. Two other statutes were created and can be found in Hilo and in Washington, D.C. The court building is located across the street from the Iolani Palace.

Kamehameha is Hawaii's first king - the man who united all the islands in 1795 battle at Nu'uanu.
It's imposing statue in gold robes stands in front of the Courthouse.
Across the street is the royal Iolani palace - the seat of Kalakaua, the last king.

If you remember the beginning of Hawaii 5 0 show, you will want to take a picture of yourself in front of this statue. It is right across the street from Iolani Palace.

The building behind the statue is used as the headquarters for the Hawaii 50 TV show. The Statue is beautiful and I enjoy seeing it each time I am in Hawaii. A great stop on weekends when there is plenty of free parking. 15 minutes for pictures, and you are off to the next site.
If a 5-0 fan, you need to stop and see. Across the street is the palace which is also a good stop.

This is another stop on the trolley tour which takes around 2hrs. If you are a Hawaii 5.0 fan this is a must. It’s a photo op and another item to tick off. Drivers on the tour are great. The driver did say a free tour can be booked which when we go back we would do this.

Everyone needs to have their picture taken in front of the statue. It is almost a requirement for visiting.
