The Diamond Head Lighthouse is located on Diamond Head Road that encircles Diamond Head. The lighthouse is not open to the public but is easily visible from both Diamond Head Road and near the Kuilei Cliffs Beach Park. The white concrete structure stands 55-feet tall and has a red roof. Originally built in 1899 and rebuilt in 1917 due to cracks, the place serves as the home for the commander of the 14th coast guard district. I did some research and found that large bonfires were used to guide mariners ashore. Lighthouses were built on Oahu after shipwreck of two large ships in the 1800’s. The red light was visible for 17 nautical miles from the shoreline.

Diamond Head Lighthouse, Oahu
From Waikiki Beach, the Lighthouse is about a 45min (mainly coastal) walk with beautiful beaches and residences along the way. The lighthouse is visible from the street but no public access. Wear good walking shoes as the path towards Diamond Head is a little rocky.

My husband and I love lighthouses and climbing them, so we drove over to Diamond Head Lighthouse after climbing Diamond Head only to find that you can't enter. It's not for the public. We took some great pictures from the road and moved on. Lots of surfers park here to walk down to the ocean and the lighthouse and very pretty!

If you are going to Diamond Head, stop by the lighthouse for a few photos and set some shots of the ocean, too. The lighthouse is on private property.

We were able to see the lighthouse from Diamondhead but didn't venture to the actual lighthouse grounds. The lighthouse is not open to the public.

An easy walk from the downtown area. While the lighthouse is not open to the public, you can get great photos without going down to the beach. I’ve gone down onto the beach to take photos in previous years, but didn’t this year as it appeared there were lots of homeless individuals camping out.

The lighthouse is located in the shadow of Diamond Head Crater, on Diamond Head Rd. The drive along Diamond Head Road runs adjacent to the ocean, with sweeping views of white cap waves and the collection of surfers, young and old, who wait below for the perfect wave to ride. This is a great spot to visit, whether you're there on vacation, or have lived on the island forever!

It is on private property and you can only see it from the road. The Blue Line Trolley does not stop so you can take a quick picture.

Aloha, walked up Diamond Head in June, not doing it again !!! how far from The Zoo would the walk be, see you in May Kia Ora from NZ
Written 21 April 2019
It's 2.4 miles from the zoo by car using the Google Maps app. For some reason it wouldn't calculate the distance for walking but it should be about the same.
