I was in Buffalo last week and once again visited Talking Leaves to spend a few hours looking over the books they have chosen to sell. I was not disappointed. I always find books I have never heard of but feel compelled to buy and read - new to me even though I read NYRB, NYT, WSJ Book section. Not sure how they do it, but they are really good at choosing and displaying in interesting arrangements. It's the same kind of atmosphere as Garrison Keillor's Common Good Books in St. Paul. Both places, you never want to leave they are so comfortable and brimming with interesting things to read. I will always be back.

This bookstore on the main street is close to the subway station. It's quiet and special, with a taste of the 80s. There are new and used book section. You can find postcard and local publication there.

For someone like me, most bookstores are special (libraries, too!). I like Talking Leaves on Elmwood and its larger sister store on Main Street because they are small and locally-owned. They have postcards and other small gift items as well. I found the book selection to be quite varied and I especially enjoy browsing the local interest books. This shop is connected to Cafe Aroma so you can have a bite and a sup (coffee and such) while you peruse your purchase.

independent bookstore owner who selects what is in the store and knows where it is. Spent a few minutes browsing and immediately knew that this was a real bookseller. Nice shop.

I had always wanted to visit Talking Leaves when working in Book publishing over thirty years before retiring a few years ago. It took a trip to visit a former student with my husband this past year to get to Buffalo and visit this iconic store. But the wait on my end was worth it, and I am looking forward to spending more time there when we return to Buffalo this Fall! Please visit Talking Leaves if you are ever in Western New York!

Stopped in here the other Tuesday afternoon while a friend and I were wandering through town. A pretty cool little shop. A little poorly organized and my friend had cat allergies which started acting up not long after we walked in... I would not have noticed until she said something... they do have a cat, which I think gives it that unique little shop feels, but if you have cat or dust allergies, maybe pop an allergy pill before you go in.
They have a pretty specific collection of books along with a nice used book section. This place is well worth you stop and explore. Glad I popped in!

Went to the bookstore because of it being one of the oldest, etc... It reminded me of bookstores I used to go to in college, which was nice if you're looking for a nostalgic kind of experience..... The shop seems to have a particular political bend to it which is fine, but noticeable.
For as many people working in there, it was difficult to get any help or direction. There are small chairs here and there covered in dirty blankets if you want to sit down. The used book section is small and very disappointing. A pleasant cat wanders the place. With all the dust and the cat my allergies made me have to leave fairly soon. The best thing about the store was the sense of nostalgia we got from being there, but other than that we were not impressed. Didn't see a coffee shop attached to it.

This wonderful shop has a second location that's bigger but each is great, stocked with good books, cards, magazines and chairs so you can sit and browse, knowledgeable owners who are readers and LOVE books, what could be better in the world. Buy at stores like this and rEAD!
