I always visit family in Forest Lawn whenever I'm in Buffalo. It's one of my favorite places in the city and my favorite cemetery in the world. Where else can you go that offers the same quality of gorgeous nature, wildlife, history, beautiful monuments, and serenity in the center of the city. Truly a gem!

This is my second time on the trolley tour, having gone several years ago and enjoying it then as well.
I took a friend of mine, and she thought it was gonna be a drag, and ended up raving about it! When her relatives from Alaska come to visit she’s planning on taking them on a tour for a day outing. The gate keeper was most excellent and the information. Very interesting that was given during the tour. The only complaint that I would have is that there was a young child on the bus and it was very distracting when he started to holler, and I’m sure the older folks had a hard time hearing over him. I’m not quite sure why anyone would bring a one and a half year-old child on a tour like this, but Forestlawn should reconsider applying an age rule for children to attend.

On a random Sunday when we dd not have anything planned, I booked a trolley tour. We had a BLAST. It was narrated by a very knowledgeable guide who told us a TON about Buffalo that I had never heard. We stopped and got off to see some graves close up and the highlight was the unexpected visitors from those who call Forrest Lawn home.

Forest Lawn was established in 1849 and encompasses 269 acres of incredible monuments, which are nestled in a park like setting of rolling hills, small lakes, gorgeous trees and herds of beautiful deer. Much history and interesting stories are waiting to be discovered. Google the names! You never know who you might meet. Highlights included Millard Fillmore, Frank Loyd Wright Memorial and hundreds of intricate monuments.
So much so that we visited twice!

Forest Lawn is a well-maintained cemetery that includes famous memorials, "residents" and even wildlife. The memorial is an unusual mausoleum designed by Frank Llyod Wright with tombstones positioned horizontally on steps leading to a pond. The famous people who are buried here include President Millard Fillmore. There is a stream and grassy area and as closing time approached, herds of deer and flocks of geese emerged to walk the paths.

The Blocher Mausoleum is amazing. Read about it before you go to enjoy it more. Also the Blue Sky Mausoleum designed by Frank Lloyd Wright is just around the corner. As well as President Millard Fillmore's final resting place. I wish we would have had more time to walk around and admire the great statuary and mausoleums.

My husband and I love to visit cemeteries when we visit new places. We stopped and got a map of the cemetery to help us find famous people's graves. I found out that it was actually easier to google where the gravesite is. Google gets you pretty close! Then when we got close I would google a picture of the grave site to find it. This place is huge!! We found Rick James and President Millard Fillmore's sites. We stopped and got out at a few different spots. Some of the monuments and memorials are just unbelievable.
We saw people just walking the cemetery and we saw deer everywhere. One momma with her fawn. There are bridges, waterways and large trees throughout the cemetery. This is a really well taken care of cemetery and is very beautiful.

This is one of the finest and best maintained cemetaries in the state. I highly recommend the two hour tour. The tour covers all of the prominent citizens of Buffalo who are interned here and provides a fascinating glimpse into the past. The grounds are beautiful and it is a serene and lovely place to visit.

They do have tours of the grounds, however not sure of times or dates. Google Forest Lawn Cemetery located in Buffalo NY. It should have all the info. The tours are very informative and interesting. There is a lot of history and famous artistic designs of stone heads. Enjoy
