This is the smallest of the missions in the area and the farthest from San Antonio. This is a more rural setting so you get a good feel for the history. The chuch was open while there so we could go inside - neat place.

The church is closed except when mass is in session, otherwise its closed to the public. The visitors center is open and is small compared to the other missions. This is the smallest of the missions in San Antonio. I would still recommend coming here,...More

One the many missions we visited during our vacation to the San Antomio area. This missions are still active to this very day. That was a pleasant surprise to me. Must see!

Another beautiful old mission along the San Antonio River. You can imagine its original size by the ruins of the walls surrounding the plaza. As with the other four missions, the grounds are kept in beautiful condition and it was a pleasure to walk there.

This one of the four missions we visited. Less interesting comparing with other three. Also some work is going on repairing old buildings. The main building is closed. Just few minutes to brows on the yard and take few photos. Free to visit.

This was our least favorite mission. The white adobe church just didn’t feel like it fit the era. The grounds are small and some areas were being repaired. Still a must if you are exploring all the San Antonio missions.

Mission San Juan is very scenic. The Mission is white and still has a working bell tower. It stands out against the ruins of this compound. Walk around the entire Mission, not as large as San Jose, yet good exercise as you do. There is...More

I never knew anything about the Franciscan Missions until I went to see them in San Antonio. They opened my mind to the reason that the Franciscan Fathers were so successful in converting the native people.
