If you are on Ihlabela, do not miss this amazing little waterfall and its accompanying pools. Nestled in hills above the city, there is a parking lot, shop and staff to help you. While we brought our own bug spray, we really appreciated the amazing mosquito repellent station at the trailhead to help with insects, too. This is easily accessible for those who might be less mobile, and it is a beautiful, fun experience complete with some natural rock slides, refreshing pools, gorgeous scenery and cool little waterfalls. Very glad we went!

We visited as part of a tour. We were there to view the falls and distillery. It was quite crowded since all of the busses arrived at the same time (not the fault of the staff at the falls) and there was a large local turnout on a hot day. We didn't experience any insect problems but they must be present since many of the local people were very liberal with the repellant.
This would be a better place to visit on your own or with a small group with plans to swim and enjoy the water.

Making booze out of sugar cane. An old run down factory that I am sure is not used to make the drink anymore. Nothing of interest really, no information boards, all, very grubby and it is just an opportunity to try and sell you stuff.

Hi, PBPG, we make cachaça once a year, and we are the last working cachaça distillery in Ilhabela.
Our work has been recognized by the State of Sao Paulo as a heritage site in 2021, as the best -working- representative of the agroindustrial past of the north coast of the State, as well as for the natural meanings of the waterfalls and the Atlantic Forest that surrounds it.
We are one of the most wheelchair acessible waterfalls of the world that you can really dive in, and one of the best hotspots for birdwatching Atlantic Forest species. Geologists constantly visit our waterfalls because some of the rarest forms of granite found in nature can easily be seen there besides of several species of aquatic life, from fresh water shrimps to fish and crustaceans, some found only in this region of Brazil.
I’m sorry we were not up to your standards, hope you can visit us again soon.

Toca seems like a simple waterfall, but its not.
I’ve never been on a waterfall that counts with
- parking lot
- paved way/staircase to the falls
- bathrooms
- mosquito repellant
- cachaça tasting (I’ll get to that in a second!)
- a full team working and trained to give you the best experience of the falls and to teach you about the history of the place
Toca has the most “diveable” falls I’ve ever encountered. You might find a higher fall on the island, but you probably not going to be able to stay there the whole day because you’ll need to walk in the woods for half the morning and now you have to use the restroom and there’s nowhere to go and the place is teeming with garbage from other people. Toca is completely different.
You get there and you are greeted by their staff and they give you the directions to go to the falls that are located not 2 minutes walking on a paved way or down a rustic staircase. There you are greeted by their monitors that will teach you how to get around and how to enjoy every pool.
One thing I always feared about waterfalls is that you can’t see the bottom, but their team checks the diving spots daily and they give you the lay of the land on how to best enjoy the spot. I NEVER experienced that kind of attention to detail and safety on a waterfall in my life.
The distillery: Toca has the only working cachaça distillery in the island, of a total of 31 that have existed there. It is not only a nature experience that you get, but you can also visit the old building and get to know more of the past of Ilhabela and the mill. The machinery is amazing and I had the privilege to take a tour with the owners of the property.
Overall, I believe that going to Toca is the most complete experience you can get if you truly want to understand the history of the island and feel how it interacts with the Mata Atlântica.
The place is managed by the same family for generations and they have done an amazing work preserving the place. You don’t see garbage laying around like other hot spots in the island and you feel safe to enjoy nature.
They are not subsidized by the local government and the fee you pay to enter is more than fair for the tremendous value you get by going there.

I was glad that I did not pay the $109.00 cost of the cruise ship excursion to go here but instead opted for the $40.00 local tour. This is a nice series of waterfalls and fun for those who came with a bathing suit (I did not). It is not good for anyone with mobility issues as there is a steep staircase to the falls.
They have free insect repellent (not that I even saw a mosquito) and warn of mosquitoes. This is definitely a nice place to stop, see the falls, have a local beer and watch the hummingbirds at the feeder. However, it is definitely not a "must see" destination.

Very nice and marvellous waterfall. There are three sections, one is nice and fine to swim. The second is the shower, you can go under the waterfall. The best is the lowest part, where you find a natural water slide - very funny!!!

We stopped here on a shore excursion on a cruise. Our stop here was unfortunately too short. A series of cool pools over smooth rocks provides some refreshing time away from the summer heat. You can slide down over the rocks. Lots of shade. Plenty of staff to help at the pools and up at the main building. Several staff in the main building speak good English. You can get some snacks and drinks and sample their flavored alcoholic product called cachaça made from pressed sugar cane right on the premises. They have old mill equipment from the early 20th century as well as newer powered equipment. Staff will explain the process of turning sugarcane to product. Hummingbirds are plentiful and are not afraid. You can sit nearby and enjoy them while you sip a cold drink. Use some of the homemade insect repellent provided for the small nibbling insects found on the island. The bites, if you get any, didn’t itch and our long-time guide assured us they are harmless. Facilities are clean. We enjoyed our visit here in Late February. It’s a 10 minute taxi drive up the hill from town if you don’t have wheels.
