I wouldn’t have expected a world class museum in the mid sized city of Richmond, but they apparently have one of the top 10 most extensive collections in the country. I don’t know much about fine art but they have had very interesting special exhibits...More

Awesome antiquities section, super cool they have their very own mummy! Maybe go at an off time to avoid the school crowds, maybe after 3PM on a weekday? We were inundated with giggling high schoolers. But I can see why, this is an awesome place!

The faberge eggs were wonderful to view, The Eqyptian exhibit was interesting to view. The museum flows well from one exhibit to the next. Cute stuffed animal display at the gift shop! Enjoy!

Visited to see the recent special exhibition on Napoleon, but found much more to see. The Faberge eggs are stunning, the modern art will challenge your thinking, and the classical paintings are plentiful! If you can, have a meal in the restaurant, Amuse. It has...More

Everyone in Richmond should spend at least one Sunday afternoon a year wandering through the VMFA. Even if there weren't spectacular collections to view, there's also a pretty nice cafe to reward yourself afterwards and a beautiful lawn to meander. Not a bad spot for...More

Not sure about the open time. It should be posted on the web site. We had tickets during the week when they were not busy and they allowed us to go in early.

We were able to enter the exhibit 30 minutes before our set time so I doubt I would be a problem.

I would give it at least an hour. If you have a particular interest in the other items, such as the gold and other jewelry, household furnishing, etc., plan on longer.
