I really enjoyed walking around MIT. It was just a short walk from the T-station and the sidewalks were not super crowded. Perhaps I just got lucky with the timing, but the parts of the campus that I walked around were not very crowded and were quiet. Even if you are not a student, I highly recommend taking a half-day to visit the campus and seeing everything that MIT has to offer.

This was probably my favorite place to visit while staying in Cambridge for a few days, and I really didn't even plan it. I just happened to walk by campus on a Friday night as the sun was setting. You could feel the energy of the weekend beginning, but there was a lot still going on. Student were working out at the Dupont Gymnasium. Mens and Women's Lacrosse teams were busy practicing on the athletic fields and students and visitors were walking up the steps to the school's etrance on Massachusetts Ave. Surely, I thought I would need a student ID to go through those doors and enter the building, but I was wrong. Soo, I was walking down what I learned is called the "Infinite Corridor," which on this cold evening was very much welcomed. I felt like a student as I passed offices, lobby areas and classrooms, and then veered off into other corridors and stumbling upon exhibits of learning and achievement. I thought someone would soon be asking for my credentials, but that didn't happen. I soon found myself resting on a bench as a professor and a hanful of students pondered some physics near the Great Dome. Now, I am not really much of a science guy, but I found this pretty exhilarating. After finally exiting the building onto Eastman Court, I headed out to enjoy the breathtaking view of the Boston skyline from Memorial Drive. Next time I might plan my visit a littlle better and even take the the guided tour, but I was thrilled by my spontaneous Friday night visit.

This is one of the most beautiful university campuses I have seen. It is so captivating; intriguing and aesthetically pleasing.
The buildings are juxtaposed in such a way that you feel like walking around an architectural masterpiece.
I love the vibe of the students walking around and the modern sculptures and embellishments all through the campus.
It's definitely an amazing place to visit if you're in the area.

We signed up and took the official tour. It was way way way too long. First everyone sits in a small auditorium and we listened to a staff member talk for 1/2 hour in excruciating detail about the admissions process. Some random fast facts and 2 minutes of questions. This lady was totally self absorbed and could not read the audience that we were there to see the campus, not listen to her blab her head off.
So the tours were led by students. We saw most of the campus and it was 1.5 hours of listening to a college kid, all of his opinions and mostly the outside of buildings.
The tour was free, but at least one full hour too long.

Impressive amount of art on campus made for a great walk. Some of the architecture is worth paying attention to as well. There is an interactive map available on line that will point you to things worth seeing. Street parking was difficult to find so we left the car in a reasonably priced lot.

The MIT Campus is a dream for architecture lovers!! Despite the buildings being closed due to the pandemic (campus reopens for the fall term), we had to visit to see the campus, to understand the layout, and see the buildings designed by some of the great architects of the 20th century: Eero Saarinen's MIT Chapel and Kresge Auditorium; Alvar Aalto's Baker House, four buildings by I.M. Pei, and Frank Gehry's Stata Center. Truly awesome! Also enjoyed seeing sculptures by Alexander Calder and Mark di Suvero. Hope to make it back someday to see the interior of some of the buildings as well as some of the murals and other art!

Along with Harvard, which is just around the corner, it is a very famous university not only in Boston but in all America. The large campus is lined with many school buildings, making it look like a school city. There are no school gates and tourists are free to enter the campus, so many people take photos.

MIT has been my son’s dream college since he was in 1st grade. He has worked hard an this year his reward was to go see the campus, all he wanted to do this summer. Due to the pandemic there were no tours available but even just walking around campus was a dream come true for him. The campus is beautiful with lots of places to sit and relax: Adirondack chairs, hammocks, bench’s. There is plenty of art and nature to admire too. We love the Peace garden and the project it goes with. I should have let me son write this review as he has not stopped taking about MIT and absolutely loved it. Even if you don’t want to go to school here, it’s a great area and campus to walk around.

We found the buildings and campus to be ugly. Maybe because it was February and there seems to be no nature, but the campus has a very industrial feel - like something out of the movie Brazil. We walked the hall between West and East, saw some class rooms and walked the campus. The buildings (inside and out) seemed dirty. We did visit the athletic complex. The pool areas was nice, but the ice hockey rink was below average. We visited on a Saturday and the campus was not that busy with students (studying maybe). Other than the campus there is not much to do in that part of town. If you have a choice between visiting the MIT campus or Harvard, I would choose Harvard.

We visited MIT last Nov 2021, even though it’s still not open yet for public. It’s a nice place, good university to visit once it’s opened again. The area surrounding is also good to explore.

Hello. I would appreciate if you can advice me on visiting MIT & Harvard Campus. It seems that I will have on one Sunday time to visit them. Is it worth to visit both on Sundays or it is better to do it another day? I mean, will the buildings still be open on Sunday (not a student). Furthermore, how much time do I need? I heard for Harvard 2-3hrs will do (to explore around). What about for MIT? Many thanks in advance for your help!
Written 30 September 2018
You can do both in one day, they're close to each other and 2-3 hours at each campus Harvard and MIT is fine.

We visited both of those and the Museum of Science. I would also go check the Peabody museum at Harvard.

Can we travel on weekends ? Do we need to do any reservation to visit MIT?
Is there any entrance fee to visit this location?
Written 30 September 2016
There is no entry fee, however if you book a tour they will charge $10-15 per person.
I suggest you get the tour as it will give you the historical perspective and an idea what's going on in different department, as otherwise it is very easy to get lost in the block building.
I hope this will help

which is the best airport to fly into if I'm staying at MIT Endicott house in April 9-14 for a conference? I am flying from Michigan and would be willing to take the subway/metro from whatever airport if it is not too long and safe to a stop within a few blocks of Endicott house if possible. Can you help me?

BOS (Logan Airport) is the only Commercial airport near MIT. Suggest a cab if money is not an object. It's easy method with baggage, most direct & "safest" since you can take them any time if day or night. The other reason I suggest a cab is that the MIT area is served by only one MBTA trolley or what is called a "T-stop", and, it's not too close as I recall, Kendall Square. Look up Boston MBTA on Google & study the map. The other option is a bus but that system can be confusing & also not drop you off close to the Endicott house. Again suggest getting a MBTA bus map, study it. It's cost effective & while buses are plentiful from Logan, hauling bags around may be glad you took the cab option and paid a bit more money until you find your way around the MIT campus & Boston.

Hi Sorry for the delay, Catch your flight into Boston Logan Airport, The main Airport for Boston, Quickest way to M.I.T. is to catch a cab, 15 to 20 minutes, or catch the "T" Boston subway,on the silver line then change to the red line which stops at the M.I.T. building. All above courtesy of my sons girlfriend who lives in Boston.
