The original reso was cancelled due to the big surf but we rescheduled and so glad we did. From the check in at the shop to getting in the water at the bay what a great adventure. These folks took their time getting us all up on waves and I would recommend Kona Mike’s to anyone interested in catching some wave and having a great time…. Thx Gang!

My husband and I are fairly new locals and booked Kona Mike’s based on the good reviews, and we weren’t steered wrong! We had the best time catching waves guided by the solid and friendly instruction we received.
I rode a wave in to shore and when resurfacing a wave pushed the board into my nose (I wasn’t looking - my fault), and I received great care and attention from the team. I decided to sit it out for a bit and watched my husband keep going, and he did so well riding wave after wave! Anyways, now I have a story about learning to surf, and we are going to book another lesson with Kona Mike’s to work on our confidence and technique.
We highly recommend Kona Mike’s semi-private surf lesson for locals, visitors, and kids as the surf spot is partially protected and the instruction is top notch. 🤙🤙

We signed up our two children ages 6 & 9 years old for private lessons. It was from 8am at the shop ground instruction on hand placement pop ups etc. We then drove down to the beach approximately 7-10 minute drive. The instructors loaded the boards into the water and got the kids going. For the next two hours my 6 year old rode an endless amount of waves. No thanks to his paddling he just layed on the board the instructor (Eric) continually paddled him out to get him on the next wave not slowing down for the 2 hour experience on the board. My daughter who is 9 was more capable of swimming and helping with paddling but the instructor (Brandon) helped paddle her out to catch many waves. He was very positive and encouraging and challenged her to take steps on the board while riding the wave. The kids enjoyed the experience and from a parental perspective it is a lot of money to spend but well worth the price.

Eric was so amazing with our son teaching him not only to surf but to manage a shorter board. My son had a blast with him and I feel way better after 4 lessons having him surf in Oregon and use the skills Eric taught him. I highly recommend a personal experience private or group with Eric. We saw other groups out there and they were so big that there wasn’t any personal attention. I was so thankful that wasn’t our experience.

Jake was a fabulous instructor. Super chill and gave good pointers after each wave. We had three in our semi-private lesson and two were beginners. Each of us got just what we needed. We were able to stand up many times within the two hours because Jake would push us on to just the right part of the wave at just the right speed. Definitely worth the money!

Our teen took an individual lessson. He had great things to say about the instructor who got him out there and up almost immediately and then coached him for almost 2 hrs. My son would have had a hard time with a lot of beach learning so this was perfect...explain, demonstrate and do. We thought it was funny that we followed directions to meeting spot, which led us to a small historic church and a long row of trucks with surfboards to " met" the instructor in an unmarked truck by asking " are you Mike?". But they were super organized and ready for us

I have two teenagers who I signed up for surf lessons. My 16 year-old daughter had surfed before so I signed her up for the group lesson. They told be they had 1 semi-private lesson available. Since my son hadn't ever surfed, this seemed like a good option. The problem is that when they got out there, my son got no more instruction than any of the others in the group. they just lumped them all together. My husband and I watched from the shore and both my kids noticed this. The kids had a lot of fun and they were safe, which is my biggest priority, but they shouldn't have charged us $40 extra for his lesson. Just make sure you get what you pay for and have fun!

My sixteen and twenty one year old sons had a great experience. The instructors they had were both very good. Gave them a lot of feedback and tips to improve on. My oldest son plays major college football so he knows something about what makes a good coach. They will both be back again!

I had a great time with Kona Mike's Surd Adventures.
I took a private lesson with Pono (the surf instructor), and he was very encouraging, friendly, and professional. Other instructors were also great too, and I really had a great time.
I would recommend this place if you are looking for a fun, exciting, authentic surfing experience in the Big Island with the instructors with good vibes.

We had a group of four young adults and had the best time learning to surf. We had great waves, the instructors were knowledgeable and personable, and we were all able to get up on the board so many times. We absolutely recommend this for anyone, any age, that wants to try surfing in Hawaii!
