One of our best experiences. Seeing how they lined up the tunnels at Mt. Rushmore was cool. Watching our bus slooowly creep through the tunnels was quite interesting.

Wasn't a nice day for a drive but the views were very nice and to see Mount Rushmore through the tunnel was special

You will see much more if you let someone else drive. Peter Norbeck had it constructed for the beauty and sights of the land and Mt. Rushmore. The tunnels that frame Mt. Rushmore, pig tail bridges, and wildlife are great to see.Take this 1st on...More

Custer State Park is a jewel. Dramatic scenery, wildlife, and fast fast temperature changes ( 3 inches of snow on Saturday and heavy fog to a beautiful, warm fall day on Monday - we were there both days)

It was a wonderful car trip with the most wonderful views. Loved it. But I would advise people to read the road signs, because we saw that RVs that had problems passing.

Fantastic scenery of the rocks, forests, and mountains leading up to Mt. Rushmore. The highlights are the tunnels that frame views of the presidents' heads on Mt. Rushmore. The first time people see these sights, there is no avoiding "WOW!"

The best way to travel the Iron Mountain Road is north from Custer State Park so that the three tunnels frame Mount Rushmore in the distance. The Iron Mountain Road is the road that engineers once said couldn't be built. It includes narrow tunnels, pigtail...More

This was such a fun drive! You go through 3 one-lane tunnels where Mt. Rushmore is framed in the opening! DO NOT SKIP THIS DRIVE!

This drive is excellent and well worth doing, though some of the tunnels are very small in both width and height so you need to make sure you will be able to get through them before starting.

Love the bridges and the tunnels. I was really shocked when I got out to take a picture at the first tunnel and saw it framed the Presidents. What a great design. Next time I need the sports car for this great drive.

I'm sorry. I don't know of they close Iron Mountain Road for the winter or bad weather. Good luck!

You could try roadpics? Can't remember if that is the one that was there during rally or not but they will have their sites posted so you could check.
