Nice

It was great to visit and find no more boarded up store fronts. The place is returning to normal: friendly atmosphere and great shops. There was a long line to get into the new Target store. Lots of restaurant choices, something for everyone.

Great place to take in some local culture
Aug 2021
I've been to Madison a zillion times for work and pleasure and I've never gotten around the visiting this well-known and popular place on State Street just a few blocks from the Capitol.

We grabbed a table outside and while were we there the city's annual naked bike ride passed by.

I ordered the $15 "tourist special" which includes a pint of Spotted Cow beer, a brat on a bun accompanied by a side of batter-fried cheese curds. For those under 21 or non-drinkers you can substitute a soft drink for $2 less.

The brat was excellent. Most brats are pork and this was a beef and pork blend that had a moderately spicy flavor. I find most traditional brats a bit tasteless.

A great place to take in some local culture.

Good to be back
Jul 2021
Having gone to college in Madison, it's always fun to check out State Street. Most of the bars from our days are changed, but some of the shops were the same. This year we were pleasantly surprised, not near as many boarded up buildings as we had been told to expect.

Great place to shop, eat and people watch
Jun 2021 • Family
Tons of great stores and places to shop. Plenty of different foods to choose from. I noticed the homeless population was very visible in this area. Great place to people watch.

RECOVERING...WE HOPE?
May 2021
Hard to visit these days, given that so many businesses have folded or reduced their hours. The boarded-up store fronts are an unfortunate reminder of troubled times. But this time was better than the last, and we hope for better days ahead.

Stay away
May 2021
Super disappointed to see what State street has become. Went there when i was younger and took my family back this weekend. Super sketchy boarded up buildings, homeless people everywhere. Very sad that this place has turned into a dump.

Stay Away.

Terrifying -- looks like a scene from a post-apocalypse movie. Dangerous, dirty, and devoid of people. Stay away.

Disgusting
Jul 2020 • Solo
Stay away from State Street! It will leave you disgusted with what is happening in this country! Most of the retailers store windows have been boarded over and sprayed with anti-establishment graffiti!

Garbage breeds to be picked up
Jul 2020 • Family
There is just too much garbage laying all over the streets and freeway. It makes me feel unsafe. 8f you don't care to keep the city clean, you don't care about the people.
