When I first found out that there wasn't any race during the weekend, I was really disappointed. I almost skipped this place and I am so glad that I didn't! We walked to the back of the race track and saw some GIANT horses. They...More

This is a tourist attraction with many small but cosy restaurants. The races itself were funny but uninspiring. The gambling facilities were old such as the people gambling :) Another downside is the lack of English Instruction (as in all Japan) which makes it difficult...More

This event only happens Saturdays, Sundays and Mondays. This is not a traditional gambling venue. It's actually quite family friendly. There is a farmer's market right outside the race track with small restaurants. There is also a small area with small animals for the children....More

A friend took our family to see the Banei horse races, unique to the Tokachi area of Hokkaido, Japan. It was a Sunday afternoon, so it wasn't so busy, but there were a lot of locals there who were betting so that was a bit...More

The races take place at a special track within the city of Obihiro. There are races during most of the summer and also some during winter. There are also evening races. The race consists of heavy working horses pulling a kind of sledge over about...More

This form of racing, in which horses have to haul weighted sledges up sand ramps while being repeatedly lashed, is cruel. It's not like horse racing in other countries.
