We tooked the Boat from Gili Trawangan to Amed. On halfway a big wave hit the front of the boat and damaged the front window. all luggage were stored behind this Window. So everything was getting wet. Water was running through the boat. And what did the Crew? Nothing... More and more waves came. I had to organize by myself to get the luggage away from the waterimpact and were also hit by a wave. The boat was getting slower and the waterlevel of the boat was deeper and deeper. There were couples with small children on Board, they were really afraid. But not a Single comment from the Crew. At the end we arrived and all our belongings were wet. On the webside they say they have got high safety standarts. I think this is meant as a joke. The Crew die not take care of everything and left the guest allone. This company should not permitted to work anymore. I cant give 0 Stars, so 1 Star for the worst experience ever..

Hi Jens,
Surprised to hear your review 5 months later after as you said the boat nearly sank. That is quite a exaggeration to say the least that the boat nearly sank. Yes, the waves were extremely high that day and it broke one of our windows in the front and some water did get in as you said but our crew was busy with dealing with many things due to this so to say they did nothing is not really fair. We noticed in our bookings that you actually took our boat from Amed to Gili T and than of course back so I am assuming on the trip from Amed to Gili all was ok and as you said permitted to operate than or you would not have taken our boat back to Amed 2 days later. Sorry for the bad experience- weather at times can get rough out on the open seas but by no means was our 24 meter boat nearly sinking. We take safety very very serious and it is certainly not a joke to us.

ATTENTION (March 2023)
The Freebird Express service from Amed to anywhere has ceased!!!
DO NOT BOOK from this port.
All services from Amed have been officially closed since 1st March 2023 due to the unofficial “harbour” not meeting standards, yet BEWARE, Freebird Express continues to sell tickets for this service.
Nearest alternative port is Padang Bay, 1.5-2 hours drive away.

Smooth, quick and reasonably priced transfer from Amed to Gili T and return.
The boat was comfortable and air conditioned. Friendly and helpful team.
I had a great trip and will travel with FreeBird again.

The 2nd star is for the fact we didn't die and the crew got us to Amed in one piece in the end.
I am definitely not an expert on boats, tides, meteorology and what more, but I don't think it was a good idea to leave the Gili harbour today.
We had a good experience to start with, the boat was only slightly delayed and there was plenty of room aboard, with spacious seats. We thought this was gonna be an easy one, with only 45 minutes ahead of us. The water seemed a bit rough straight from the beginning, but this was the case before when we went from Bali to Nusa Lembongan and from Nusa to the Gili islands, so we weren't too worried.
But about halfway through the ride got wilder and wilder. The boat crashed hard into the waves and we all got a bit nervous. At one point the waves crashed into the front windows with such force they gave way and a flood of water entered the boat. That was when we kinda started to panic... The crew kept smiling, but straight away tried to cover up the front with plastic sheets. Meanwhile the ride kept getting rougher, until we all put on the life jackets and started to gather bottles of water in case we'd have to leave the boat. Honestly, I have never been this scared in my life. There were people crying, praying.. The crew kept working their best but couldn't comfort us really. This lasted for about 20 minutes I guess. To see Bali ahead of us was a great relief, but it still took time before we all felt we were really out of the dangerzone.
Whether we were truly ever in danger of drowning/crashing I don't know, but it sure felt like it. I did not feel safe or like there was any form of control. One woman seemed to have had a serious panic attack and had to be assisted to leave the boat.
All in all, this was the worst experience ever. I think the service (we had an included taxi ride to our hotel later ) was good, and sure enough everyone did their best, but I don't think they should have set off today. Some more encouraging words or explanation afterwards would have been appreciated. And the life jackets were hard to seize from under the chair, so there is room for improvement as well.
Sure, it is a fast way of travelling, but wouldn't recommend for anyone vulnerable. Thank god we were only few people, no kids, on board.
Do check the weather conditions beforehand and please, DO NOT COMPLAIN when they cancel your trip because of the weather, or send you through Lombok. I would have preferred anything over this.

Really good to go on the nearby islands. There is a shuttle bus that comes to get you and your luggage from your hotel and drops you by the boat. Really quick and efficient. It is however cheeper if you book before from someone able to get you a ticket.

One way ticket from Gili Air to Amed, booked online, hotel transfer was provided in Amed for free. Everything was perfect, the boat was in good condition and without delay.

My partner and I chose Freebird Express to go out of Amed to Gili T. and we are very happy we did so. They are still one of the best companies and also they have been around for many years it seemed so with the experience as well. The boat was clean and newer and quite comfortable. We would highly recommend Freebird to anyone making this journey. I'm very glad I did.
Will be traveling with them again in the near future.

I travelled from Lombok to Amed with Freebird and have nothing but good things to say. It was very easy for the booking process and the crew were all very nice as well. The boat was spacious and the air conditioning kept the cabin very comfortable. Once we arrived into Amed they dropped me to my hotel in the Amed area for no additional charge.

Awful experience - bought tickets, checked in and then only told that the boat was not going to Amed today. So a trip that should have taken 1 hour, now takes 3 hours on a boat (going to every other port) before going to Padangbaai where we will have to catch a bus to Amed.
Do not recommend this service.

Fantastic customer service on the boat - special thanks to Rio :)
Really worth paying the extra to sit on the top deck :)
Booked online, Great value for money and quick email response, able to pay on PayPal and clear instructions on where to find the meeting point on google maps
Service could be slightly improved by being a bit more on time, as about 30mins late in both directions for our return ticket

Hi Freebird,
I've seen on your website that you can arrange pickup from Pemuteran. Regarding the drive time and the boat at 9.30am, I assume the pickup will be around 6am ?
Can you confirm it ?
Thanks in advance and see you soon :)

What times do you leave Ahmed to Gili T? Is there a later time? Or later time at a different departure point?

9:30 is the only time unless we are running an afternoon boat. When are you thinking to go?
