Picadely House Boat infrastructure wise very poor... Air-conditioning was not up to mark.. We had booking for 8 adults 4 children with extra bed and 4 Infants... But surprisingly the cook told that he have been informed only 10 Guests and food was over. Whereas later on the staff provided 4 extra bed too with all torn Blankets... Food Taste was good, but it was severed all on one go and they had kitchen on the ground floor but we had to ask for spoons forks etc etc every time by going downstairs ouselves . No one use to stay at the lunch time in dinning area.
The Cook Mr Thomas was rude.. Was again and again worried about the Dirty or spoil the kids were doing rather then serving. Just one word.. Take Care of kids.. Don't spoil as he has to clean.
Worst Experience.. Also was pressurised to go to rooms at 10 30 as they have to sleep in the living and dining room.
Wont suggest Picadely.
Also lastly they just dropped our luggage at their office nd we had ouselves to keep them in the car

The boat was clean and the room had a comfortable bed, although the door kept swinging open on it's own, so we wedged paper in it to stop it from happening.
The staff were nice and did very well with the limited space they had for meal services.
The bathroom was very small and poorly lit.

Those who cannot afford to go to Venice, can just spend their time in Alleppey. The water way canal from the bus stand to the terminal is fascinating. I took the shikar, which is reasonsable compared to house boat. We nearly spent four hours on it. The ride was excellent as it offered 360 degrees view, which would not have been possible, had we taken a house boat. We did not want to get locked inside a room or sit in a conference hall with others. The decision was justified. Best time to go for a ride is after 3 pm. You will enjoy it.

Our trip of two days was part of an 11 days trip of south India. We can honestly say that Evergreen Tours out of Alleppey provided almost the best bit if not the most memorable part of the whole trip. It was very relaxing. Our Chef Anni cooked to our tastes Spicy but not too hot and once he found out I liked coconut the combinations were amazing. There was a lot of food but there was something for us both and there was only the two of us on the Houseboat. The Banana fitters were to die for. All the meals were excellent, sometimes too much food but the variety was there. Our captain Krishna was also great allowing us to steer the boat and also giving us lots of information about the surrounding areas. One night is not enough two was fantastic. Our cabin was spacious with an en-suite. We cannot recommend this company highly enough.

This is a must-do for a visitor to Kerala. Whilst you CAN experience the Backwaters by taking a low-cost ferry, to spend a day and a night being treated to exquisitely served food, and transported on a traditional-style house boat into a different world is enchanting. There is a qualifier: this has become SO POPULAR that in places it’s almost like Hyde Park Corner. Nevertheless, whatever your budget I would strongly urge you to spend some time on the Alleppey backwaters. And if you can, take a ride in a smaller boat on one of the smaller canals where the rice-farming community live.

At the time of booking they never tell anything about their rules and regulations. Just after visit if you demand something they'll start telling you the rules. Staff was not supportive. AC is only for rooms not for lawn if you want ac at lawn then you have to pay extra for that. Many other problems we had very disappointed with services and fake commitments. Don't visit

You have to negotiate with the boat men . Just remember, this is there living & if you’re from Europe it’s going to be cheap by our standards . I think we paid £35 each worth every penny .

I a planning to visit Alleppey on 9th April, need a backwater tour of 3-5 hours from punnamada to Vembanand Lake, it's island & back to punnamadu for 2 of us. Can anyone suggest whether some options? Also if I should go for shikara instead of boathouse.

Boathouse certainly better option considering the summer heat.

Which Travel Agency would you recommend for a 2-3 hr Boat Ride on Back Waters ?
Initially I was looking for Boats with Overnight stay but now I am overwhelmed by the negative reviews

You can go directly to the boats and just choose on the spot. Depends if u like a meal theres a chef that cooks. I also realize that a day trip would be better the overnight was not worth it. Hope this helps. Please do stay a night at the marriott or hyatt just opened im cochin near lulu mall u will love it.

Thanks for your comments on the Boathouse. I was hoping you could help me. If the boat has glass windows are you able to open them up for photos?

It is monsoon it could be quite dreary. So you have to get a good boat and not filmsy ones. I have seen very nice new ones with 3 bedrooms. You can negotiate. They looking for business in moonsoon times as theres not so many tourists. Look online and you can even go down there choose and book. Theres well over 1800 boats on the water. As for drinks you can ask.

Friends, i am to visit alleppey in the month of August.
1.Is this month suitable to visit alleppey?
2. I am with my friends, so kindly suggest me cheap budget small cruise, how much they cost for each person, as small cruise boats have the capacity to board to 50 people at once. on sharing basis how much it will cost ?
3. How much time usually can be given for the boating ; entire day, six hours or what?

it would be raining this time, but ok if you enjoy rains. small boat cruise wil be cheap, and remember smaller boats go inside narrow lanes where big boats cannot enter. half day tour will be sufficient, avoid staying on boat.

Hi, I’m planning to do allapey backwaters with my family (2adults, 2 kids- including me) during mid of June for 1-2 nights.
1. As I hear this is midst of monsoon, is this doable or should I avoid?
2. How much will that cost?
3. Any suggestions?

Well if its just backwater tours you can opt for it. even if it rains you can enjoy it from houseboat. please do note that during monsoon it will be difficult to roam around kerala. i have paid for houseboat+ taxi ( overnight stay) for rs 17,000/- (INR). taxi picked me from kochi airport > allepay > kochi ( 1day tour). sorry but dont have breakup.

I am looking for a day boat tour through narrow canals. Are shikara boats the best choice for this?. What company? Do you book ahead or after you arrived in Alleppey? Where did you stay the night before? I will be staying on Fort Cochin which is 2 hours away from Alleppey.
Any help you can give me would be wonderful. Many thanks!

yes as houseboats are big and cant go into narrow canals, shikara's are only option for that tour. i stayed back at one of houseboat where i was offered this ride with family. they arranged for the same and i paid inr 1000/- . you may please requst your hotel/resort at allepay for it

Hello! My girlfriend and I would like to visit the backwaters from Cochi from March 13-15 or 16th for two/one nights. We would like to know the options both price and itinerary wise. Thank you!

Alleppey backwaters during March is very hot and humid. Its better you can go for complete AC Boats instead of AC during night time.
In Alleppey Backwaters house boats, we have 3 options.
1. Day time small cruse boat, it only runs during day hours from 11 am to 5 pm with around 50 people inside the boat on sharing basis. Any how this will not work for you as you are travelling with your GF and you want some private space.
2. 1 night stay full AC Boat (AC Premium boats). You will have AC through out the day and night, It costs around 12000 to 15000 per boat. It has 1 bedroom, open dining area and roof top space and a kitchen. it should be the better option for you.
Boat starts are 11 am and immediately they will serve welcome drinks, Next at 1 pm they will serve lunch and boat will stop for around 30 min, next evening snacks at 4 pm,
Now the boat will be anchored at a point around 5.30 or 6 pm. You can have a small walk in the village. next night dinner at 8,30 pm and
next day morning breakfast at 8 am and and boat starts at 7.30 am and will drop you at the same pickup point at 9.30 am.
3. You can find a Boat with Same facilities of food and night stay. But only concern is AC. AC will run only during night hours from 9 pm to 6 am.
Its better Go for Full AC Premium kind of boat. Book in Advance. it cost around 12000 to 15000 approximately.
Thank you.
