- therichastillStevenage, United Kingdom3,238 contributionsNo Flying Elephants About ;)I did not realise that Dumbo is an acronym for the area - Down Under Manhattan Bridge Overpass. This would fit in with other areas of Manhattan such as TriBeCa. It's a nicely restored area of Brooklyn and there are plenty of cobbled streets and old warehouses that have been restored for new purposes such as flats, restaurants and bars. It's definitely an area of Brooklyn that needs to be explored if you have not visited the city before. There are some amazing views of the surrounding area to admire as well as places to sit and relax after a day walking around.Visited October 2023Travelled soloWritten 13 November 2023

Really enjoyed wondering around this cool, funky part of the world. Great views of the two bridges , lots of good bars and cafes and restaurants. We have also taken the subway. It's a cute and trendy place where we can stroll peacefully, take pictures of Manhattan skyline, have a bite to eat, sit and relax. There is an amazing rooftop at Timeout Market. We have only visited during the day. We're looking forward to returning at night so that we can view the Manhattan skyline.Visited March 2023Travelled with familyWritten 3 December 2023

The skyline with the broklyn and Manhattan bridges In the background is awsome. Really great feel after the intense crowds of lower Manhattan day beforeVisited February 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 5 February 2024

It is known for its iconic Manhattan bridge view, as well as pebble beach and Brooklyn bridge park. It is home to many good restaurants as well as a great view of the NYC skyline. I highly recommend taking a trip to Dumbo.Visited May 2024Travelled with familyWritten 27 May 2024

Best part was taking pictures of both the Manhattan Bridge and Brooklyn bridge around sunset. We felt quite safe, but realize - this place is crowded!Visited June 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 4 June 2024

- Thomas VOakland, California17,565 contributionsWaterfront, Converted WarehousesThis used to be a waterfront and warehouse industrial area, dominated by 2 bridges. The port functions are gone, but the waterfront is still here, now lined with beautiful park areas that draw lots of tourists. You see them exit the subway station and then walk downhill to the parks. You will find Jane's Carousel and some good places to eat and drink, plus some warehouses converted to other uses.Visited August 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 10 September 2024

Meh. We had high expectations but it was not what I had envisioned. Pretty views of the water and skyline but all along the water at sunset there were people smoking marijuana. Not great when you are walking by with kids. We ended up at an over-priced area that was way to crowded for food. I don't recommend going with kids/teens.

DUMBO (Down Under the Manhattan Bridge Overpass) is another great example of a former industrial dockyard area being repurposed for trendy shops, restaurants & apartments. There are several blocks of former industrial buildings now holding retail establishments, with several more building still undergoing renovations. This area has subway stops on either side, so it's relatively easy to get to from elsewhere in NYC.

Superb place to visit to get photos of Brooklyn Bridge and NYC. Would have given it 5 stara but for the experience of our visit to an ice cream van just up the bank from the main photo spots. On ordering an ice cream, he them demanded $21 for a single cone. Price in Central Park was $6. The van doesn't have any prices listed on it so just want people to be warned. Vans elsewhere on Manhattan have prices listed. The Fifty Sanesta on 50th Street was an excellent hotel for our stop. Ideal location, massive rooms and friendly staff.

DUMBO is one of my favourite spots to visit when in NYC. The atmosphere is superb. There are so many things to do around dumbo - from the time out market to watching the sunrise by the water! This is definitely a place you need to visit!

Despite having visited NY two times before, I never managed to get to the end of Brooklyn Bridge and end to Dumbo, so this time I made it a priority and so happy I did.
Between Williamsburg bridge and Brooklyn Bridge there is a cute park from which you can admire the panorama, and a beach where you can relax and sit down.
The place where everyone takes pictures (with the Williamsburg bridge in the background) was very busy so we simply passed by quickly, and we happily noticed most people don't even bother to continue until the park, which is a real gem. There are also cafes and restaurants along the way.

DUMBO is an up and coming, redeveloped area with some amazing architecture and places to eat/drink and shop. It is very busy with lots of photo opportunities and you can also see the gorgeous traditional carousel at the front, but can only go inside it's protective glass enclosure 2 days a week. You can still see it well though. A really nice area to wander around and explore. You can also cross the Brooklyn Bridge from here.

DO NOT VISIT DUMBO! It is a complete field of chaos. Children screaming, cars running red lights, tourists taking up entire city blocks. There's no shopping and nothing to do. DO NOT COME!

I'm sure there are healthy options. But all good things can be done in moderation. Enjoy Atrium in Dumbo. The food was fabulous, the general manager was so warm and hospitable.

Where do you have to go to get the great pic down the street towards the bridge please. We are going to New York in 2 weeks and I would love to go there. Thanks

If you walk over the bridge you follow it to your left down some steps then left at the bottom of the steps and keep going straight on you will soon see it

Buona visita!

We plan on being in Manhattan in June. Would like to walk from Manhattan to Dumbo via the Brooklyn Bridge. Looking for other things to do in Manhattan and Brooklyn during the day. We will catch the east river ferry at sunset to 34th St. We are open to any and all things. Thanks Dave and Cindy

There are just so many things to do in Manhattan as a tourist may I suggest that you visit Harlem and go to Sylvia's Restaurant for some nice soul food and a few blocks away is the Schomburg Library

hi if I get ferry from pier 11 WALL street where will I be dropped off in dumbo and how do I get to brooklyn bridge from here? thanks

It’s a great way to get there. Enjoy the view! You’ll see the Brooklyn Bridge from tne a Ferry. You’ll dock at the Brooklyn Bridge Pier and you’ll literally have the bridge right in front of you. Di plan on having time to wander around the area- lots to see, and lovely eateries. Great photo ops of the Manhattan skyline too! Enjoy.
