I live in the Gettysburg area and really enjoy The Eternal Light Peace Memorial off of Mummasburg Road. We used to go there in the evening when I was growing up and was a favorite stopping place. It was commemorated in 1938 by President Franklin D. Roosevelt as part of the 75th Anniversary of the Battle of Gettysburg. The flame is always on, although there was a period of time when it was not.

This is a beautiful setting, looking out from Oak Ridge Hill, which the CSA held at the end of the first day. It was dedicated at the 50th anniversary of the battle. However, at this battlefield, and the others, all I could think of was the...More

Another stop on the battlefield tour is the Eternal Light. It too is a must see as you listen to the detail of its creation, and the events that took place around the area where it is located.

Our recent visit to Gettysburg was to visit the Eisenhower Farm. After dark we drove through the battlefield which really gave us a different perspective of the park. The drive was punctuated by seeing The Eternal Light Peace Memorial burning in the darkness.

When I get a chance I plan to upload a number of the shots I took surrounding the peace light. This is a beautiful example of the monuments on and around the battlefield

Another outstanding monument in the Military Park with an eternal flame. It is a must see spot on the auto tour that offers a place to park and see it up close

This was our first stop. Very good place to reflect on the happenings going on even today. Peaceful and relaxing.

This is a beautiful monument during the day but very impressive at dusk. Can be a little tricky to find as it is over by Seminary Ridge & College but well worth the effort.

This stop was one of the most impressive. An eternal flame reminds us of the significance of the Gettysburg battle. Very good inscriptions that more should follow in our world today.

The day we took the tour, is was raining, so we stayed on the bus. But it is a beautiful Memorial. It is part of the amazing battlefield tour, and another of many memorials and monuments around Gettysburg.

The town of Gettysburg has a driving tour about 25 miles in length all around the important points of interest of the battlefield. This memorials is one of the most prominent along the tour. A good place to stop.
