About
As the largest natural and cultural history museum on Florida's Gulf Coast, the South Florida Museum offers engaging exhibits as well as educational programs that interpret the scientific and cultural knowledge of Florida, the world and our universe. In addition to permanent exhibits, the Museum features a constantly changing lineup of temporary exhibitions -- offering something new to discover with each visit. The Museum includes the all-digital Bishop Planetarium Theater and the Parker Manatee Aquarium. The Bishop Planetarium is the Gulf Coast's premier astronomy education facility, outfitted with a state-of-the-art Planetarium and projection system with stunning multimedia capabilities. The Parker Manatee Aquarium is a Stage 2 Manatee Rehabilitation Facility, where manatees that have been injured or orphaned are rehabilitated for return to the wild as part of the Manatee Rehabilitation and Release Partnership. The Museum has housed 36 rehabilitating manatees since 1988.

Very small museum. There was an area for younger children that was a little interesting, We missed the show at the planetarium. You can see it all in less than 2 hours.

The Bishop has a wide variety of displays. It ranges from local history to scientific. Their manatee display is very nice--you get two views of the animals--above and below the water. The planetarium was a highlight of our visit.

Varied and extensive collection

Truly something for everyone. Beautiful building, fabulous planetarium, manatees! A deep collection of metal artifacts by Native people who scavenged shipwrecks and created their own items, and many pre-Columbian figures from Central America, among other aspects of indigenous culture from across the US. Very clean. I can’t think of an aspect of human culture or natural history that doesn’t receive some coverage here at the same time as local history is thoroughly explained. Well done! I now live locally and I would definitely take visitors here.

3 museums in one, Planetarium, Manatee Rehab, and Local Archeology Museum. All quite good. I spent several hours in the Planatarium and could have spent more. Better for 3rd grade and up.

This museum charged full price for children when adults get in free. And you have to pay extra to see the planatarium at Bishop Planatarium! Talk about a messed up leadership group. I live here and woll no longer be a donor

The displays and history was great but I really enjoyed the Manatee Rehabilitation Habitat. Make sure you attend the Manatee presentation. It is very informative. The Planetarium shows are great also.

Short visit

Our family spent the morning here. The manatees were the highlight for the children 2,4 & 7. The adults would have enjoyed more time in the planetarium. There is something for everybody, but it is so varied in displays that I found it incongruous and disappointing.
